[Misc] Can anyone on here speak Latin ?

GCSE back in the day, like others it was courtesy of Caecilius, Matella, Quintus, Cerberus and Grumio (Grumio est coquus). Mensa mensa mensam and all that.

Oddly I think it's probably helped me most with English grammar and spelling, and learning other languages.

When at Goodison I like to pretend their motto means "never satisfied, and not the greatest". And chuckle. To myself. <sigh>

I wish I'd learned a trade.

Latin actually isn’t a spoken language anywhere in the World just to be annoyingly pedantic.

However, with an academic background in Law, years of singing in a church choir as well as studying /working in the field of ornithology, I’ve picked up a lot of Latin over the years - I still have a very old English to Latin dictionary that my Dad gave me when I was studying law at university- it was the same dictionary he used when studying classics at Oxford.

My Mum sang for 30 years. with the Brighton Festival Chorus and is a botany enthusiast…

We loved Latin in my family!

Learn Latin? You’ve got to be kidding right. As a graduate of Patcham Fawcett I can honestly say they struggled to even teach basic English.

I got an A taken a year early thanks to Mr Ross, and my report that year said I had the makings of a Latin scholar. I don’t think I have ever studied or looked at it again since then which is probably a good thing as the job market for Latin scholars is still in the middle of a 2000 year long dip..

“Apropos”… it’s Latin… You ought to have a basic grasp of Latin if you're working in… Curry's.
