I can't comment on "Bloom didn't want him".

However, his signing was certainly very unusual for Albion (from a financial perspective). The reporting at the time stated that RDZ called Fati five times to persuade him to come. Bloom himself made it clear how influential RDZ had been in the player signing for Albion - see this post for details.
Thanks... I'd missed those posts 👍. Five phone calls, blimey ... Ansu didn't bite his hand off then 😏

Think you'll find we paid a sizeable loan fee and a percentage of his six figure wages !
I thought it was just wages wasn't it.
Agree, that's a lot of dosh, but as many have pointed out signing Pedro cost nearly the same amount per year, plus wages.

He's only started twice in the EPL. It seems he was signed to bolster the Europa challenge. He's started 4 games in the Europa and has two goals and an assist. Before he was injured, him and Adringa looked fantastic together. I don't understand anybody writing off his signing. There's still almost three months left and he has the ability to help us in clinch moments.

There's usually an initial fee, a monthly fee and then a contribution to wages. It might be we just paid them for his wages as they're skint and needed his wages off their annual bill.

I'm sure it was reported Kudus wanted a release clause.
Yes, exactly.

And my response - easy in hindsight - would have been 'give him what he wants', so we're covered for our Euro adventure.

And when we’d be negotiating with the agent of our next target, the response would be, ad infinitum:

“You gave Kudus a release clause. Give my player one or he goes to West Ham*”.

*Other clubs who are actively trying to gazump our transfer targets as their main recruitment strategy are available.

"Nope, sorry, we're Europa League champions. Things are different here now..."

Frustrating yesterday. Did some tidy things but it is so sad to watch a formally pacy, direct and exciting world class talent afraid to even take on a very average in talent and pace Nottingham Forest full back.

Just remember how long it took Lamptey to get back on form. Plenty on here were very happy for him to be transferred out at the end of last season and the beginning of this one as they had written him off in the same way as Fati is now being written off. Having faith in your body not to fail again after a nasty long term injury takes time and games. Sadly we don’t really have the time to get Fati up to his previous level. I wouldn’t be against him staying here another season.

Lamptey looked much more of an attacking threat when he came on. I've been SO keen for the AF move to work out, but it just doesn't look like it will. He got injured at just the wrong time. Since coming back he has the look of someone not wanting to get injured again, knowing full well that he's got to go back to Barca for pre-season and fight for his future there.

This is a very fair point to make. Yes, he does look extremely lightweight and lacking in confidence, but look at Estupinan too. He looks miles off the pace at the moment and RDZ said last week that recovering from a serious muscle injury has taken more of an impact than expected in his recovery to match sharpness

Yesterday was the day when I decided we're better off without the fella.

I totally take your point about recovery from injury and young Ansu might go on to live up to his promise, but at the moment he is miles off where we need him to be.

He's also in effect our top earner. I'd much prefer that we develop our own players now. Yesterday, to me was a chance to get Barco minutes, get Enciso more match fitness.

I also wonder if there is a point about formations here. Ansu has come through at the Barca system where 4-3-3 is ingrained. He will have spent his young life learning how to play just to the left of a main striker, cutting inside and getting his shot away. At Brighton, we're asking the lad to get chalk on his boots, right out on the wing and get crosses in. Maybe it's just not for him

He is a bit hopeless, another RDZ signing that hasn't worked out - hopefully he is learning that our recruitment team knows better than him,

But he was like this before his recent injury for us and Barca when he had been fit for well over a year. He wasn’t taking people on like he used to, always opting for the safe option. Barca loaned him to us hoping he would get over this mental block he has but it’s just not happened.

He’s talented and young enough to still have an amazing career but I do think he needs to adapt his game or focus on being an and out striker now like an Aguero as some of the little runs he makes are very good and he is a quality finisher. Unfortunately not many teams play with one of those anymore though. I’m just not sure he can offer enough at the top level starting deeper or on the wing if he’s not prepared to take people on.

Me too. But we have to accept he's not going to cut it. Looks very lightweight and surprisingly slow too.

There were a couple of times yesterday where he made errors you mostly see in the lower leagues like running the ball out of play and losing the ball easily. He has got talent but I can see him ending up going the Dele/Lingard route of not doing anything special and maybe ending up in Turkey or Saudi.
