I wonder if there's a degree of misjudgement by De Zerbi. With most non-fan-owned clubs the fans will generally back the manager if he makes complaints about the board, who are generally seen as men in suits and who don't understand the game. I don't think you'll find many/any genuine Brighton fans that would side with a manager over Tony Bloom, not just becuase of the financial investment he's made but also the clear understanding he has on statistical analysis of the game.

*When I say fan-owned, I mean clubs like Barca that are owned by a collective of supporters. Our owner is clearly a fan.

You think RDZ knows nothing about our club and the role of the owner, and his relationship with the fans, and thinks he can reach the fans by going over Blooms head in his attempts to blame the club for not signing . . . . . .

No. That's all bollocks. All of it. From basic premise to the narrative itself.

You remind me of some of my colleagues who, when they have a bee in their bonnet, will torture every fact so it fits their hypothesis.

Come off it lads, we lost a game of football. Nothing more, nothing less.

RDZ knows what the job is, he’s just reiterated it to the media. No great crime as far as I’m concerned.

What does concern me is the absence of the smile and spark that he was exhibiting at the start of his tenure. Happy coaches/managers can transmit positive messages far more easily than unhappy/stressed ones, but I’d be stressed if I’d spent the season trying to put out a winning team with an ever-changing cast of available players. He’s a good coach, still developing himself, stay behind him and the team.

It is no good turning on de Zerbi now, after a couple of poor results. The guy has done a brilliant job , taking the club to places we only dreamed of . We have seen young players develop into Premiership quality. It is not his fault that we have faced a shocking spell of injuries this season.
You can grumble about a couple of transfers in that did not work, but that happens at all clubs. It seems that some of us feel entitled to success all the time... Who are we? Chelsea?
To my mind it would not be a bad thing if we did lose to Roma. It would allow us to have a clear run in the League.
Everyone admires the set up here at Albion, except some of our supporters it seems.

I’m wondering if his style and intensity has a short shelf life for both him and his players. Given his CV is full of short spells, doing less than 2 full seasons here wouldn't buck that trend either

Just reminds me so much of Bielsa at Leeds, even down to the interpreter. Bielsa wasn't a whiner though.

Agree, seems uneasy, almost like someone witnessing an uncomfortable dressing room based post mortem.

He seemed more troubled than he should be, reckon it’s kicked off in the dressing room

A few random points - apologies if they’ve already been covered )- I haven’t been through the entire thread.

before the start of the season a few of us wondered whether De Zerbiball would be rumbled and I think teams have come up with effective ways to stop us scoring. As said it doesn’t help that we have lost Mitoma, March and Pedro.

there is a wee Billy sized hole in the midfield whilst he is suspended. A lot of our play goes through him

yesterday we had a very strong squad - unfortunately most of it was on the bench!

RDZ does sound increasingly negative which will spread through to the team.

But on a positive note we are still punching above our weight, we have a great squad which will only get better with age (that young Herr Groß looks particularly promising)and it will come good again. If RDZ does go, I’m sure there will be loads of coaches only to keen to take over with our squad

I can see RDZ’s gripe, if it wasn’t for his coaching ability we aren’t in the top six and selling a certain midfielder for £115m.
With Mac that’s a £165m return for the midfield Crown Jewels.
In an ideal world 70-80m goes back into squad strengthening those two positions and not promoting last seasons third choice to 1st choice.

Given his agents were in Barcelona making kissy faces long before this thread or anyone was doubting his commitment his reps appear to be the ‘problem’ here not our fans

I find the unlucky with injuries narrative a bit hard to take - some of the losses have been fatigue based, (yes) partly our fixture list and depth are an issue… but we’re all aware of what the players have said about the intensity demanded in training, and the intensity of our system during matches… if you’re pushing ageing bodies and/or growing lads to the extreme, then sadly things can go snap!

Forr me Roberto ball is only sustainable with a high turnover of players, at a high cost… which for us equates to an unsustainable business model. By looking to retain our core squad, we’re always likely to see fatigue and the margins widen accordingly…

Maybe this is why a coach like Roberto can only work long term at a club with huge resources and depth, so when the fatigue demands rotation, you’re not picking a young Aussie winger who failed to impress at League 1/2 level and expecting him to shine..?!?

All of this leads me to the same sad conclusion: the marriage is already over, all that’s left is trying to maintain a shred of dignity on all sides.

If we progress in Europe then things could yet finish on a high… Thursday, following on from this week, is going to be very interesting indeed.

If he’s here next season I’ll genuinely be amazed.

That was my feeling too. Either that or, more personally for him, that he is disappointed in his recent involvement/performances...?
But yes, more likely the former.
