[Albion] De Zerbi: 'We deserved to lose...I understood the problem in January!"

RDZ is getting on my tits. He picked a shit team today. We lost. Barco has been called up for Argentina, played well on Wednesday but today wasnt good enough to get on because he doesn't understand the tactics or whatever.

If you can't find a place for him it suggests a manager problem not a player one.

Thursday is massive now.

Do you think the club are happy with being a midtable club or did the transfers/scouting just not come off as successfully this year?
Exactly. We wanted Kudos. Didn’t want to get held to ransom. We have a model and structure and it became obvious he didn’t fit. Move on. Teams who go chasing and wasting money on manager picks end up going broke.

Anyone who has watched the Sunderland documentary has seen how panic can lead to shocking decisions. You need to have a plan. We

Yep, spot on.

Maybe the club are happy with being a mid table side, but RDZ is not.

His comments about the squad/recruitment are spot on IMO.

This.

We didn’t incrementally improve the best 11/squad last summer, for the first time in a long time, it regressed. When we had a whole load of extra games to play.

I haven't heard that from anyone in the club.

De Zerbi wants Champions League next season.
And he will get it.
The plan from within the club is CL footballl 3 out of the next 6 years. That’s what barber told staff.

RDZ was the one that pushed for Fati. Bloom was quite vocal in his opinion that it was ‘expensive’ deal for the club.
Where is the evidence of that? My memory is he was an opportunity that they all wanted after Enciso got injured.

The club want champs league in the next 3 years. The appetite isn’t matched by the investment.
Really? (well obviously they would love it). The last clear target I remember hearing was to be a top 10 club, with a few forays into Europe.

I thought that was unlikely but here we are.

It seems for some fans this is now not good enough.

Internally they want 3/6.

You say bad patch.

9th in the Prem, last 16 of the Europa League and with our attackers devastated and no midfield.

Potter just about got half that that with Bissouma, Caicedo, Mwepu, Mac Allister and Trossard.
Yeah, I guess the 'bad patch' is relative. This current bad patch also sits in the most successful patch of our history.

Which is kind of my point

I suspect TB and PB had had enough of RDZ in January and are saving their powder for the next manager in the summer after RDZ has f***ed off.

Bielsa was a star for a season and a half, but once he was found out, it created Leeds relegation.

Yeah not saying any more
Fair enough but what your suggesting here is that the disappointing couple of transfer windows are not because the club are resting on their laurels (as was suggested).

I think we fans need to recognise that continuing our recruitment (that has been the envy of Europe) is no mean feat.

So this year he has basically swapped Colwill for JPVH which is not a downgrade.

Caicedo has become WBG which is a downgrade of sorts because completely different players

Alexis has become Pedro (if he was not injured).

Also been given Fati and he has Adingra.

I think the squad depth this season is better than last year but we were not ripped to pieces by injuries. It is not just the number of injuries we have had but same positions.

We can’t carry a squad with three people for every spot. If they happened to all be fit then lots not in said.

I am fed up with RDZ moaning tbh.
I think "Alexis has become Pedro if he was not injured" might be one of my favourite nonsense quotes of all time on here.

Jeez, what are people smoking tonight

I think what also makes this more frustrating for me is the club had a second chance in January to do so.

We had qualified for the RO16 in Europa, were still in the FA Cup and were 8th (?) in the league. But the squad was faltering with injuries & we knew Adingra & Mitoma were going to take on extra fixtures with their national sides.

We were in a great position then, and by all means, we are still in a good position now. The foundations for a great season were laid by then. But I can't help but feel as though a few warning signs were there for us to act upon in that January window, which I don't think we really did. Since then it feels like RDZ's tone has changed.
