Vueling from Gatwick 9.05 Weds, stopover in Barcelona, arrive 18:00 Rome. Back to Gatwick same route Fri, leave Rome 21.30, stopover Barcelona back 8.30 a.m. Not ideal but not too bad price wise and best I could do as Wizz and Easyjet both crashed at the checkout.

As I’m probably sitting this one out, a) can someone get me one of these and b) do you think there’s any call for a “Palace are shit” version? 🤣

Flight to Pescara from Stanstead Wednesday, driving straight to Rome and driving back to Pescara Friday. Still some direct flights available on Ryan Air for circa £170 basic.

EasyJet from Luton to Milan on the Wednesday evening (only £19 each)

Stay in a cheap and cheerful hotel near to the main station in Milan on Weds evening.

Train from Milan to Rome early on Thurs morning

Day of fun in Rome on the Thurs (hopefully)

Stay in a hotel near to Rome central station on Thurs evening

Train from Rome back up to Milan Fri afternoon

Ryanair Milan Malpensa to Stansted on Friday evening (only £27 each)

I’m hoping I can get tickets for the game now, as I’m not in tier 1. But if I can’t, I’ve only lost out on the cost of the flights, which isn’t much

Train strikes on Friday mate

I'm flying Vueling.

1310 LGW.....BCN 1610-1855.......arriving Rome 2040

Flying back 1000 to London City for 1310.

All for £335, which isn't too bad.

Train strikes on Friday mate
One of my contacts in Milan has advised me that the Freccia Rosa trains between Roma Termini and Milano Centrale should be running OK on Friday. He therefore thinks that I shouldn’t have a problem getting from Rome to Milan, but getting from Milan to Malpensa Airport will be more difficult, with no buses or local trains running.

At the moment, I’m thinking as long as I can get to central Milan with plenty of time before my flight’s due to depart, at worse I can get a cab (albeit I expect these to be at a premium and consequently quite pricey).

If there aren’t any trains at all from Rome to Milan, then I’ll have to hire a car.

Luckily, my flight from Malpensa doesn’t depart until 10.40pm, so I should have time to sort something out, although I may not get the sightseeing time in Rome that I had hoped for.

I had 5 failed attempts with price increases each time. 6th time I thought I got tickets. Screen message saying all paid, email confirmation coming in a day or so. Didnt get one, had to pay more today and fly out Monday.
There is an option still to fly Gatwick to Paris to Rome, return the same route. Out Thursday and back Friday but decided on a longer trip as it was a bit risky although there is plenty of time between flights.
