Not listened to it yet but just a heads up that the latest episode of Marianna Spring’s ‘Why Do You Hate Me’ series is about the Premier League’s attempts to shut down social media abuse. Monsieur Maupay talks about his experience of online hatred in the wake of our win over Arsenal. Available on BBC Sounds.

Disappointing that 'contributory negligence' remains a reason to add 'but' after every various perfunctory 'I condemn all the racism, death threats' etc.

He’s a bright lad so must know his epic levels of shitehousery is the reason surely?

I will always have a soft spot for him.
The abuse he received after that Arsenal game was mainly from their false belief that he was responsible for Leno getting injured.

Didn’t someone get jailed for the abuse they sent him on Instagram over that incident?

As I started reading the BBC article I thought to myself "I bet the person making the death threats is a 16 Yr old from South Korea". How wrong I was. It was a 19 Yr old from Singapore.

Hardly a reason to engender hate, online abuse and have your family threatened though.

It's a game at the end of the day.

No way condoning it but the way he behaves (which I love personally) will engender the absolute moronic abuse he gets, struggling to think how social media can be reigned in on things like this though. Especially when most of it seems to come from a different continent. Although I think a Malaysian/Singaporean did get a prison sentence for the post Arsenal death threats?

Have just started listening and already worried at the memory of being in a relegation battle.

Neal was one of THE nicest footballer I've met. He had so much time for my son while getting a selfie. Asking him questions and being so positive. Most just smile and move on but he made time. This was a lovely thing my son still talks about when we see Maupay on the TV or back at the AMEX
Similar to Joel Veltman, shithouse master of the dark arts on the pitch (admittedly in a more subtle way than Maupay) but an absolute gent off the pitch and always got time for the fans.
