More than once today (Everton) one of our players was taken out by a foul. Trainer has to come on at which point the player, through no fault of his own, has to stand on the touchline for 30 seconds.
Now, I understand this is to stop uninjured players faking an injury to waste time, but when it is a genuine injury and the player was down through no fault of his own, is this fair?

What aggravates me more is when a player stays down - looking at YOU Tarkovski - when its clearly not even a head injury and the ref stops play. He sat there in their 6 yard box holding his leg, and took all the wind out of our sails whilst we were knocking on the door.

Job done. Proper Dyche'd once again.

Right - I didn't know about the 30-second thing until fairly recently. So, when it was mentioned I looked it up.

Players have to go off the field after treatment. They cannot come back on for 30 seconds (or longer if the ref forgets they were off the pitch, like Dunk at Spurs).

But I thought there was a caveat that if the injury was caused by a player committing a yellow or red card offence, then the 30 second rule does not apply. However, when Tarkowski was booked for injuring Welbeck today - Welbeck wasn't allowed back on for 30 seconds......

So, does that caveat not [no longer] exist?

I think that Mitoma had to wait on the touchline after treatment for the red card assault last week. The 30 second rule seems to be applied any time the physios come on regardless of whether or not the offender has received a card.

Danny had to stay off for the 30 seconds today after treatment which came when Tarkowski fouled him and was booked.

There used to be a rule that an injured player didn't have to leave the field after treatment if he'd been injured in a challenge that saw his opponent booked but that hasn't been in place for a couple of seasons.

See post #12. It's still the law.

But it does say 'if the assessment/treatment is completed quickly' - so I'm guessing that's the discretionary element.

So, if an opponent assaults you, but you're not too badly injured, you can play on quickly - but if the assault is so bad you need lengthy treatment - you have to stay off for an extra 30 seconds. Seems bizarre.

It was supposed to be to ensure the player isn't concussed, I thought. Or has it been extended against the will of the people, taking more control away from ordinary men and women and their families, like when the common market was changed to the EU, behind our backs!

Sorry, just had a gammon-spasm. Time for an aspirin and a lie down. :facepalm:
