Criteria: long illustrious career at club and international level, >32 years old, probably English (or played a lot of his career here) but not necessarily, respected in the game, out of contact this summer
Could well be Henderson.
On the shortlist are the following players who meet most or all of these criteria: Jorginho, Jonny Evans, Willian, Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman, Thiago, Scott Carson, Thiago Silva.
Jorginho is Italian, that's where my money is going
Or will it be one of these titans of the game whose contracts are up this summer and can lend their experience to our next generation - Jeffrey Schlupp, Joel Ward, James Tomkins or Wayne Hennessey. What a coup to get one of these

Club of course has to be mindful of home grown players regulations, so I assume would prefer British. For that I'd say likely Ross Barkley, Ben Mee or (possibly) Matt Ritchie.
If we're going non-British then it would have to be Eriksen (year on his deal but gettable) or Thiago for me.

Just the thought of it. Yes I am obliged to get behind every single player in Blue and White stripes.
But this would test my resolve to the absolute limit. My hands would have an epileptic seizure when subbed on/off, my voice would have done a runner if I had to shout encouragement and my fingers would be incapable of typing anything good about him on NSC.
Apart from that, I'm not fussed about him should he join.

Not a serious guess. I just liked imagining that someone could tell Real Madrid they didn't' t want to sign an extension because they were off to Brighton.

Reminds me of when I led Eastbourne Borough to Champions League glory and I regularly had players saying they had “no intention of joining Real Madrid or Barcelona” because we were a bigger club

Jesus Christ why are we even entertaining the ideas of these players who are well past there prime, I don't want us to be stoke city when they were in the premier league. Remember when they signed peter crouch. and yes he was only 26. Were looking at players in there early to mid 30's. Has Lallana played 90 mins yet.
Why don’t you look at Chelsea football club for that answer? They don’t have a core group of very experienced players leading their team. They sent most of them to the Middle East so that they could buy more young targets of other clubs. They have little on-the-pitch leadership or experience and this will hopefully be demonstrated yet again tomorrow in the final.
Part of our strategy is to have a core group of experienced role model and leadership players. We have signed Welbeck, Milner and Lallana. They are responsible for helping nurture our amazing wonderkids. I think last season’s 6th place and our continued progression in the Europa League proves that this strategy is working.
It’s not the whole squad by any means but 2 or 3 veterans in your squad who can still contribute but have played a lot at the top level is invaluable to our strategy.
I can’t wait for the likes of Toni Kroos or Ciro Immoblie to replace Milner and Lallana next season!
