[Help] Parking (not near the stadium) - advice please

Hi (new here so sorry if this post is in the wrong place).

I'm bringing my teenage son to the Everton game tomorrow. I appear to have two options - park at Haywards Heath or Wivelsfield then train (bus replacement) to Brighton then Falmer OR park at Lewes and train to Falmer from there.
I'm not too concerned about the public transport leg but I'm worried that I might not be able to park near whichever station I use. Any advice on which of those options will be best to park at please?? (i.e. which is most likely to have spaces available).

If you are driving anyway, then it would be far easier to carry on in the car, and park at the Mill Road P&R.

Indeed. But, he certainly wouldn't need to be there any earlier, than he'd have had to be at Wivelsfield, in time to get a replacement bus into Brighton, then queue for a train out to Falmer!

If I were you, I'd opt for Lewes. Haywards Heath and the change at Brighton will be a faff, whereas it's 7 or 8 mins direct from Lewes.

Lewes FC is right next to the station, but they are away tomorrow which should mean fewer problems with the parking (there's a small pay & display car park at the Dripping Pan which is an option if the station car park is full). There's a fair amount of on-street pay & display parking nearby too, though the charges vary a lot.

Your main issue will be the wait for a train back to Lewes after the match.

For the least hassle, go as early as you can and either prepare for a queue on the way back, or plan for a drink or two after while the train queues subside.

There is no perfect option for getting away quickly right after the final whistle.

Lewes Station alway seems to have parking available, so long as you do not leave it too late to get there. If you are there by 1pm/130pm you should be fine.

Disgraceful isn't it that there are those who do that. They should be made to go back home, get their car and drive back to the car park, adding further to the congestion in the area and adding to the amount of harmful emissions being released

Exactly! Anyone would think they're entitled to use the service due to free transport being included in the ticket price or something.

Thought Pyecombe P&R may be available if they knew of the scheduled engineering works far enough in advance? Shame its not!

Innit. I've never understood people's objections to the 'Walk & ride' folk. Those people make exactly the same contribution towards the travel subsidy as anyone else, after all.

The P&R options (which I would have favoured) are sold out, but you've given me reassurance that I'll be able to park somewhere near Lewes station. I'm coming from Essex and I'll be aiming for noon on the basis that even if there's an hour's delay on the M25 I should still get there by 1pm.

There's no pre-booking for the Mill Road P&R, is there!?

Just turn up, and park, and hop on a bus.

This. And now I understand the selfishness of my previous behaviour, I'm now going to drive the 30 seconds up the road to my nearest P&R and plonk my fat-arsed motorcar there for the afternoon, so I can be a legit user. So get there early, or I might just have taken the LAST SPACE!

I think you're muddling up the near-stadium parking (which is pre-booked and paid for), and the park and rides. 10 minutes further down the a27 from lewes will bring you to the Racecourse P&R, usually plenty of space if you don't leave it too late. And you can nip into my local for a pre-match pint/food before hopping on the bus

. Easy-peasy.

We used to park for free in Lewes and walk down to the station. That way you can stop off in the Lansdowne or somewhere as well. Much better than park and ride.

Aha! I stupidly looked on the club site under "Parking" which clearly states "Park & Ride facilities only available when booked in advance"
But they mean the EDF Hove P&R has to be pre-booked (and is now sold out). What is now clear, having found this invaluable forum, is that I should have looked under "Transport" where these other P&R options are mentioned, so I have another option.
