I spent last night listening to dozens of versions of this song. Springsteen never ceases to amaze me. He has a seemingly endless back catalogue of songs that are better than pretty well anything else that's out there. He's probably written dozens that are better than this one, but it really is a beautiful love song. It's interesting to see how different artists interpret this track. The EmmyLou Harris version is truly exceptional. Personally I like to hear it infused with pedal steel, and some people have been brave enough to attempt that.
I've worshipped Jackson Browne for since 1976, but is Jackson really more talented than Bruce? Is anyone ? I'm beginning to have my doubts. Then there is the live concert experience. I've seen some incredible concerts over the last 50 years, but even Jackson at his best couldn't surpass Springsteen. I don't think anyone can. I feel blessed to have lived through the life and times of two of the best singer songwriters ever to set foot on the planet.
