It's incredible how the flimsiest of excuses is still enough to induce hissy-fits about one of the most successful managers we ever had, and a rather good home-grown keeper who has now left the club to pursue a career elsewhere.

In fairness, and specifically on this subject, Percy Tau's stats were similar to Mitoma when they were out on loan. You could argue that Percy's were better. And I think Mitoma made two maybe three, fringe appearances under Potter before he ran off to Chelsea? - RDZ gave him his first start.

It is unknown whether or not he would have made it as an established PL player. You could argue coming on and setting up the opportunity to get us the draw already showed potential.

Either way, RDZ would have got a lot more out of him. He'd have either got time and worked or been shipped out. - We'd have found out in months vs wasted years.

I am sure I remember reading/hearing something about Percy not taking instructions from the coaching staff and just playing the way he wanted to, whether they liked it or not, and that was the reason he got shipped out?

Woah! Potter was the greatest manager Brighton have ever had and all our current success is down to his vision, extraordinary ability to get the best out of young players, his personal recruitment policy etc. We would be in League one now if it wasn’t for the greatest young English manager of our time.

We'll never know with Tau if he would have made it or not. With regards Potter ... personally think he was a good manager for us, the right manager to follow on from Hughton, but he wasn't a great manager and his limitations were definitely starting to show by the time he left. He left us in a much stronger position than when he joined, but personally think he'd hit his ceiling and we needed RDZ (or similar 'next step' type manager) to kick on.

Why? I just think Potter was too cautious when it came to bringing through players and using those new players to adjust the way we played. He admitted himself it took too long to bring Caicedo into the starting team, and I don't think Caicedo was the only player he was overly cautious on. With RDZ we've seen he's not afraid to throw a player in and trust them to put a shift in. I know this season it's been injuries that have forced some of it, but we've seen the likes of Ferguson and Hinshelwood fast tracked into the team successfully. It's only after a player has had some match time and not shown enough that we see them backed out again (eg Dahoud).

IMO if we'd had Tau at the same time as RDZ, we'd have seen Tau given more match time to prove himself. Which he may, or may not, have done. Not sure that Tau's record since leaving us is particularly instructive on whether or not he'd have succeeded with us under RDZ.
