I’d rather have a football chat with a decent Palace fan than one from any of the big 6, they at least understand proper football and aren’t going to be just an armchair plastic

I parked by Selhurst Station (for free) this year and as we walked inconspicuously to the ground a Palace fan kindly tapped my husband on the shoulder and told him he was dragging his scarf behind him

With no obvious nearby team it is good that this rivalry is in place and produces games that mean so much to supporters. Certainly the banter and chants add something to these games. However find it strange walking to ground hearing many grown men some with children calling any palce supporter they pass an f----g c.. Same when coming out . So many supporters going up stairs and turning round giving same abuse.and saw supporters throwing things at Palace supporters some with children as they got on there bus.
Because of the rivalry I do enjoy a win against Palace more than most but to be honest find it very hard to understand the hate I witness.
Would think Palace income is similar to ours and therefore should have similar ambitions which will include some poor seasons. Would also think there salary bill is far greater that started with paying Zaha £130k. This gave there supporters an entitlement that they should be able to compete with bigger clubs. Where as most of our supporters see our last 2 seasons as a real bonus

Had a good mate from Uni who was a palace fan. I even went in the homesdale end with him a couple of times to watch a couple of matches (not against Brighton) would have been years ago. Andy Johnson was playing for then for perspective and it was before 'the age of the ultras' where it was just normal folk watching football. And had a good craic with his mates in there.
I find his thick enthusiasm quite fun.

My best man, & his brother (who is another of my best friends) are born palace fans. They are decent people & (like me) see the 'rivalry' as a bit of a joke.
They're just an average club punching above their weight. & have consistently more than we have - until the Amex came along.
Palace are a proper local club for their people. Anyone from around their could easily pick a more successful & better club to follow. So, it has a true fan base

I had a colleague a few years back who was a really good guy and a Portsmouth fan. He told me a really funny story about going to watch Pompey with his parents, both of whom were very straight laced and didn't like swearing. At the game the Portsmouth fans were giving the w*anker sign to the away fans, when suddenly his mum stood up and joined in. Shocked, he asked her what she was doing, she replied, "I'm doing the Pompey wave"Next week…. “Say something nice about Pompey”

To back up what some people have already said REMF, The Price of Football (superb) and the fact you can actually have a good football conversation with their fans, who get football more than most so called Big Clubs fans. As the Price of Football says we have so much more in common with them. I still love to beat them and do better than them but the hooligan part of it all can just do one.
