Currently with EE - contract ends soon. Sim only contracts are around £20 plus with EE even for 24month and 5gb, but looking on compare websites it seems I could go to say O2 and get a 12month contract with 25gb data for £8. What's the catch, or are EE just stupidly expensive!?

In November I was coming to the end of my EE contract, I looked online and found, like you that they are stupidly expensive for renewals. I was annoyed as I have found them to be the best mobile provider, by a long chalk and almost always have signal when those around me don't.

I got a PAC code and left things a few days, by which time I had a few calls from their retentions team. When they finally called at a good moment I was offered a new phone and add-ons (TNT Sport) for £34 a month. Given that I already paid BT for the service, it was the equivalent of knocking the price down to about £19 a month. It also included Apple TV free for 6 months which is ATM a very good service in my opinion. The chap on the other end of the line admitted the website is full of awful deals. Do what I did or try calling would be my advice.

That's with £125GB data and unlimited everything else for 24 months and a Pixel 8 (which I love).

Is your signal good? My contract ends in 10 days and looking at them as an option.
Fine most of the time but can be temperamental on a train.
It’s a month to month contact so if it’s no good can move on

I’ve ‘decoupled’ my phone and sim plan for a while now. Buy a phone outright and then sign up a sim only deal, usually works out cost effective and now days make a phone last 2-3 years

I'm with Sky SIM only £8 p/m. Currently have 180GB in my piggy bank which I move to my Ipad as I need it. Good thing with Sky is if you use their Apps it's free.

I pay £10pm for 30gb from EE.

I called last month to ask for more data and they gave me 24gb extra for free after mentioning their competitors deals... Was previously on 6gb for the same price.

Like with most things these days, it's always worth calling and saying you'll leave because of what their competitors are offering.

Have a look at Smarty sim only deals on 1 month rolling contracts. I changed to them from Three about a year ago- best thing I ever did, especially as they use the Three network.

As long as your Three reception is good since they use that Smarty is a no brainer. My sim only plan is a 30 day rolling contract for 60gb of data for £10 a month. The usual rate is 30gb but they are always doing double data offers. I've had zero issues and their app is simple to use. The only issue some people might not like is that their only support is via Live Chat.
