We spanked Luton 4-1 when they were in the top division and we were in Div 2 , can’t remember the year but it was late 80’s or early 90’s

Vaguely remember that now, possibly year they got relegated (91?) too?

That was the one I was going to mention - often forgotten about.

Remember it well. Rather lively in the City beforehand!

Edit: It was season 89/90 btw.

If I remember rightly, Gulls Eye peeps handed out leaflets before the game calling for a demonstration after the match. I don't think the demonstartion materialised! I'm sure @Lenny Rider can confirm.

We beat Chelsea in the cup in the 1930s (no, I wasn't there.....). I don't know what division Chelsea were in in 1933, but I'm fairly sure it wasn't division 3(S)!

I vaguely remember a good run in the League Cup in the 60s, beating teams in a higher division than us (Birmingham City and Coventry?) before losing out to another higher club. Derby County, I think - after a replay?
After a little Googling, it was the 32/33 season and Chelsea were in the first division (finished 18th):

After beating Coventry we played Northampton at home drawing 1-1. We lost the replay 8-0, and I was there!

Yes, I remember that too (I wasn't there though) - I got my years mixed up with the one where we went out to Derby. Maybe I should have googled!

League Cup 76/77 when we beat Ipswich and West Brom they were both top flight teams and we were 3rd tier. We then led at home against 1975 Football League Champions Derby, in front of a frenzied 33,500 full house before being pegged back and losing the replay 2-1.

Great days but not meeting the criteria of being the FA cup!!

That game in 1984. Yes -fair enough, we had got to the final the year before. But still.

Watch from 59.00 onwards - in real time, not highlights. The first goal, great - but then whilst we were all still noisy and bouncy, listen to the expectant roar as Connor was put through (you don't seem to hear that sort of noise much now, not sure why) - then we all went batshit mental. Celebrating when still in a celebratory mood is something quite special. Bigger win for me than the year before, and one of the most special moments in football for me. So far!

The previous one being Birmingham beating them 3-2. One of those bizarre facts I oddly remember!!!
I remember that well. Birmingham were 3-0 up going into injury time and they almost threw it away, but it was 1977 or 78 and a league game, nothing to do with the cup. My Dad was a Blues fan and that was a landmark result at the time - then as you say, 5 years later they lost at home again to Albion.

1974

Edit, I've just been trying to look it up but can't find it. Could have sworn it was Birmingham in the FA cup 1974 but will keep checking.

That West Brom away in particular was a cracking result. Memory may be wrong but didn’t we wear red shirts and blue shorts that night? And Peter Ward scored a great solo goal I think, it finished 2-0.

A special day. I think it was the first televised match on a Sunday.

I don't miss those days though. The football itself is just hoof, hoof, and the occasional bit of nifty groundwork halted by a flaky pitch- and ours was one of the better ones. That's a more watchable game though. Some are just painful to see. Don't ever bother with the 1-0 win at Forest in 1979. Played on a mud bath, it has to be one of the worst I've seen.

It was 1990 old boy, what could possibly go wrong, ripe for a protest, we go and win 4-1, joked about it with Danny Wilson years later, he proper went into one in the Luton dressing room, said they’d let the fans down etc, and I added “and us Danny” 😂

I'm quite surprised that there appears to be a lack of knowledge of our FA Cup giant-killing history on here (especially given how old everyone apparently is!). As per this page from the Brighton and Hove Albion Collectors' and Historians Society newsletter no. 28 in Autumn 2006 [now known as the Brighton and Hove Albion Heritage Society] Albion were renowned giant-killers back in our Southern League/Third Division South days, beating First Division sides on TEN occasions between 1908 and 1933:-

Wow, yes, I had forgotten! Not that I was around, but reading your post, and seeing the word 'renowned', I remembered a Brighton and Hove guidebook I read years ago. It was published in the early 1950s and I guess it was trying to position Brighton as a rival to Blackpool because as well as having articles on all the tourist attractions (piers, pavilion, aquarium, etc), it mentioned the conference facilities (King Alfred would you believe, which apparently once hosted the Tory party conference).

As well as these it mentioned the sporting attractions: golf courses, horse racing, first-class cricket at Hove, and professional football at the Goldstone. Obviously there wasn't much they could say about a Third Division South team (certainly not compared to Blackpool), but it did say we were 'Renowned Cup Fighters', and there was a bit on all the 'big' clubs we'd beaten.

We beat Portsmouth in 1993 with a Matthew Edwards goal, they were Championship level we were League 1 level. We drew Man Utd in the next round.
Remember both those games well. and since that 93 win, we didn't win another third round tie for 17 years until knocking Torquay out in 2010. No wonder giant killing memories are so few and far between
