[Albion] Why has RDZ not signed a new contract yet?

The two main things that I recall RDZ saying about it are that he already has a contract that he will honour and he will only sign a new one when both his and the clubs targets are aligned - hence all the endless speculation of what his targets are and what the club will have to do to meet them.
Or to put it another way what RDZ will need to do to meet Tony’s targets. After all we are Brighton fans rather than RDZ fans….

Yes, but what’s wrong with asking for more ? Early December to now is less than 2 months which is nothing in contract negotiations for well paid jobs. I know you love a good stir but you are reaching a little here.
Have to agree. I think RDZ is fine at BHA and enjoying the lack of pressure and spotlight big clubs will bring. Contracts take time and I have faith in TB & PB!

We are but the speculation is that his targets are higher than the clubs. The only public target the club has is to become an established top 10 club and PB has already said that RDZ has made them aim higher.
Our aim is sustainability. The higher we can achieve this the better but I don’t think that aim is negotiable regardless of individual employee impatience. I don’t think though that anybody knows the extent to which RDZ’s ambitions are aligned with the club. People are often drawn to the negative when speculating into an information void.

Absolutely. The speculation is that RDZ has suddenly decided that our model that got us this far will not get us any further, which I don't believe at all. He will sign a new contract as and when he is ready and if he doesn't then so be it. His more interesting comment is the honouring his current contract one so we will see how that goes!

RDZ is a once-in-a-generation coaching talent. Pep and Klipperty have both pretty much said it publicly. If one of the top European clubs agrees then he'll probably leave in the summer. I'd love another 2 seasons with him in charge but I'd take one more. I'm not sure that the contract negotiations have much effect on what will happen.

I must admit, I'm not convinced that RDZ is a once-in-a-generation coaching talent, like you put it.

Obviously he's a great manager. Potter is/was obviously a great manager too. And like RDZ, the likes of Klopp & Pep were singing Potter's praises at the time.

RDZ is not elite yet, though. In particular, defensively his tactics & strategies, and possibly defensive coaching, are poor.

I think, like Potter, it would be a mistake to leave (unless he's only after the guaranteed £££ as well, which doesn't seem like he would be). He would better off continuing his development as a coach here.

That said, I think he's going. His ambition is more short-term than ours. He is/will become frustrated by us continually selling our best players, and not buying oven ready players - having to start over again with fresh, raw talent.

I predict that he will leave us soon. I also predict he will not do as well at his big new club, and regret it, like Potter will have (in a football respect anyway).

I also predict that when he does go - it will transpire it was not just Potter, or RDZ, that is making the club great - but the entire set up of the club, as a new candidate takes the reigns and takes us to the next level.

I imagine he just wants to make any potential move as easy as possible, a larger buy out clause might deter clubs from making an approach, particularly when clubs are being more cautious at the moment.

I think we need to be realistic, everything points to him going right to the top if we can keep him for next season it would be fantastic but him signing a big new contract probably won't keep him here longer IMO, when a top club comes knocking he'll be off.

I'd say that the fact he is still here now is testament to how far we've come, a few seasons ago they'd be plenty of premier league clubs that would lure him away, now I couldn't see anyone out of the top 7 that would tempt him.

Even if he signed a new one would not change anything if a job came up he wanted he would be gone. No different to the players who sign contracts then piss off in the next window.

Great, another thread that will be full of pointless speculation, faux ITK bollocks, over-analysis of a few throwaway comments and uninformed drivel because no-one on here has ANY IDEA what stage discussions are at

I’m out
And the thread is USELESS because it has no poll

I disagree on so many levels.

RDZ has long been recognised as being at the cutting edge with his style of football and is beginning to attract young players from all over the world that want to train under him. He managed top Ukrainian Premier League side Shakhtar (taking them to a Ukranian Super Cup win in one season) and Serie A club where he became widely recognised for his possession attacking style football. He took Sassuolo to a within a GD qualification to European football and has improved on that record at Brighton.

Potter was a university coach that managed Championship side Swansea City and while his time at Ostersund was somewhat legendary, it was a small club in a small pond. RdZ came to Brighton already with more experience in top flight European football.

IMO his time at Brighton is continuing to cement his reputation as a very talented coach not just in Europe but amongst top EPL clubs - he is managing a relatively moderate size club with half its key players out for a good part of the season- that would frustrate any manager. He has a style of high risk attacking football - the pace which he develops that being tempered by our need to build on a squad with MF/defensive players that can then, under his hands-on style of coaching, acquire the skills to cope with it.

He hasn’t even completed 3 transfer windows yet, I am not sure how much money people think we should be spending each time but I would suggest it is not RDZ’s short term view or frustration that some folk are expressing. None of what TB/PB wanted for the Club has happened overnight - we aren’t funded by Saudi sports washers, we can’t ‘buy’ our way to the top. RDZ knew how we operate when he came in - he knows we are one of the best run clubs in the League, he’s not going to walk out because of that.

While Potter was a good coach for us, laying the foundations of our current style of play and putting to use an acutely tactical brain, he didn’t push our existing players to the height and achievements RDZ is doing - that work takes place largely in training and in that aspect alone, imo RDZ is the better coach.

Yes of course RDZ will leave - very possibly in the summer window and of course we will already have an eye on his successor but I would be somewhat surprised if he left he in the middle of the season like Potter did - I believe he is focused on finishing the project he started this season in Europe and securing us another top ten place in the EPL. It is things like that which cement reputation not walking out leaving projects uncompleted. If Liverpool want him that badly and Klopp leaves before the summer.they could appoint an interregnum manager and wait until the end of the season.

I suspect Man City or even Milan will be a more of siren call if Pep announces he is leaving. I would be happier if he signed a new contract with us though, even if all it would achieve would be a better financial deal if he does go this summer.

In the meantime I am going to focus on the present, enjoy our most successful season to date and relaxed in the knowledge that TB and PBOBE have got this - whichever way it blows.

as opposed to Shaktar who were a huge fish in a tiny pond. And by the way, Potter won more games in Europe with the Swedish club than RDZ with Shaktar (0 won) which is a decent achievement in itself.

RDZ is fantastic, but his CV needs some achievements and until his tactics become defensively better he won’t be an Elite serial trophy winning manager.

At every club he’s scored a lot, but also conceded a lot - you don’t win Premier Leagues or Champions Leagues being that open. And I don’t believe the defensive players we have are as bad as our record suggests.

I think it’s more likely he goes to a Spanish or Italian big club than next job being in England - can see it being someone like Athletico for a change of style from Simone’s horrible negative football.

I don’t think Östersund and Shakhtar are comparable - also Potter didn’t win any silver either but I agree RdZs CV needs some achievements which is why I believe he Is committed to our European project and focussed on getting us through this season. No one expects him to stay with us long term, he is too sought after.. if people honestly think with a different manager we would have been winning the League Cup or Champions League this season, they need to wake up and smell the coffee.
At every club he’s scored a lot, but also conceded a lot - you don’t win Premier Leagues or Champions Leagues being that open. And I don’t believe the defensive players we have are as bad as our record suggests.
That is the style of play but it is a style of play that has us winning our Europa group, beating big clubs and currently in 7th place in the league with half the team out injured for the best part of the first half of the season so you’ll get no complaints from me. As long as we are scoring goals, conceding goals is not such an issue - personalty I am not obsessed with the idea of clean sheets as some folk. As long as we are winning games, playing beautiful football and keeping a good GD it’s not a problem…

Our defence imo hasn’t been leaky because our defenders are poor, it’s because they are being asked to play in a novel way that leaves us open to counter attacking teams who refuse to press high when we want them to. On the contrary, our last match against Arsenal showed how effective our defence can be - and that was without Pervis or Veltman.
I think it’s more likely he goes to a Spanish or Italian big club than next job being in England - can see it being someone like Athletico for a change of style from Simone’s horrible negative football.
I agree, Italy especially (and Man City suits his style better than Liverpool, maybe even Man U)

If it makes people cope better with the thought RdZ will be leaving Brighton by criticising him now and saying he was no better than Potter then fine but they need to give their head a wobble if they really believe that.

Kin ell...thats spooky, I met the great man today for lunch and we had a Good old Sunday Roast leg of lamb, with Raspberry Jus and some goose fat potato's and winter vegetables. He told me he knew Palace job was becoming available and to tell everyone its his dream job.
I think you're lying. A 'Good old Sunday Roast leg of lamb' does not have a 'Raspberry Jus' with it! Mint sauce is the only real accompaniment to roast lamb. 🤷‍♀️
