The early favourite with the bookmakers and a manager who has previously been talked about as a potential Klopp successor one day.The former Liverpool midfielder has worked wonders at Bayer Leverkusen this campaign, taking them to the top of the Bundesliga - four points clear of Bayern Munich - after guiding them to last year's Europa League semi-finals in his first half season in charge.
The 42-year-old, who is under contract until 2026, has the German side playing expansive, attacking football and would be a popular choice among Liverpool fans.
Roberto de Zerbi
Of those currently managing in the Premier League, Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi would seem to be the most likely candidate to replace Klopp.The 44-year-old Italian has impressed the Liverpool boss with his tactical versatility having secured victories over the Reds in the league and FA Cup last season, as well as a 3-3 draw at Anfield in his first game in charge of the Seagulls.
De Zerbi guided Brighton to sixth place last year, which saw the club qualify for European competition for the first time.

Not a bad haul given it was at a time when Man City were spending big. There was at least one season when his points tally would have ordinarily won a title.

Have you watched the interview, JK effectively said that with in this age it would’ve been impossible to keep it a secret. His preference would’ve been to keep it private until the season’s over.

Gotta be between these two, but Alonso looks the man for the job. Fans all want him, will be a big crowd pleaser after the ESL fiasco. I’m sure Alonso would love the job too.
Let's hope so. His status at Anfield would be a huge advantage. For anyone without the Liverpool links, it could similar to Moyes going in at United after Ferguson. Ideally, you'd want to be the manager after next at that club rather than Klopp's immediate successor.

Given the (admittedly very good) job he's done at Villa – and therefore proving the whole Arsenal thing was a blot in his copybook – why is no-one mentioning Emery for top jobs, like they do with RDZ? I heard Gobby Agbonlahor practically selling Roberto to Manchester United (I think it was) and yet which manager is having the better season, has the more impressive CV and would be a better fit for them (or whoever it was)? Clearly he wasn't going to suggest getting rid of 'his' club's gaffer, but why does no-one else see it?

I find the timing of Klopp’s announcement very strange. Can’t see why he didn’t do this much later in the season. I wonder if Salah going to the Saudi league has heavily influenced his decision!
Nah. He told the club a couple of months ago, so the news was going to leak and he thought it best to announce it before everyone found out. He can also try and get the team to all pull together for one season of glory.

Alonso will get the gig, be interesting to see what he is like as a manager with a big budget to spend
Happy for them to win the League and the League Cup - whilst suffering glorious defeats in the FA and Europa Cup Finals to a team from the south coast.

These things are usually announced at the end, or towards the end of the season. Certainly easier to do off the back of a trophy or two, go out in glory. As it is, we are in January with Liverpool still in four competitions. Not exactly an ideal time for your manager to say he’s off. We are not sure how this will impact the team. It might galvanise them and already we‘re hearing “do it for Jürgen,” or it could destabilise. It could be then that someone found out and the media were about to break the story. If so Liverpool would have been “bounced” into doing this now.
