[Albion] Palace Fans Biggest Fear

The second and third seasons in the PL it felt like this is as far as little old Brighton are allowed to go. It looked impossible that we could ever compete against the big 6 and I wished we were back in the championship competing to win something on a far more level playing field. I did not enjoy it at all. Imagine a dozen years of that pointless grind with no hope in sight. Grim.

FFS @loz now I feel empathy for Palace fans.
I remember this feeling well. First season staying up obviously felt like a big deal and worth celebrating almost as much as promotion itself. Got a bit weary of it halfway through season 3 though, and discussions amongst mates was very much a case of relegation wouldn't be a disaster from a fans' point of view as it's much more fun going to a Championship game with a realistic hope scoring 3+ goals, rather than a hope that we might sneak a streaky 1-0 win or a useful point in the Premier League.

Now we've obviously got the best of both worlds of being in the Premier League and still going into most games with realistic expectation that we might score 3+ goals

I didn’t get that flawed championship logic, I’m guessing you wanted us to win if we went back down and achieve promotion? Or would you prefer we tread water in the championship like a Stoke and our owner having to constantly lose money every season to make us competitive?
I think you may have missed the cruel mockery which was the main intent of my post.

Also you should not confuse my misty eyed yearning for happier days with an actual desire to see Brighton relegated. I wished to go back in time to relive that happy journey. I did not hope to go back to the championship.

Yes it's just a fact that winning promotion in the championship is hugely entertaining and far outshines the 'fun' of treading water in the premier league all the while knowing that your number is up some time soon. I wouldn't imagine many Brighton fans wanted relegation but in the last Hughton years I found myself missing the excitement and value for money of the second tier.

It's worth noting that in each of our first 4(FOUR) seasons we had 9 PL wins all season.

This season we already have 8, after only 21/38 matches. We'll need to go some to match last season's 18 wins, mind...

Yes, let's face it, we are the fans that have been spoilt recently, not Palace fans. They have been fed the same ground out crud for ages. Maybe that is why they have taken to entertaining themselves in the stands instead of actually watching or caring about the football?

How Palace do business:

A bid for Daniel Munoz was rejected earlier this week by Belgian side Genk, with the Colombia defender reportedly having refused to train in an attempt to force through the move. Asked last week about Palace’s interest in the 27-year-old, Hodgson said: “Yes, I’ve seen a video of him. He looks like a good player. I’ve only seen a video of him, but on the video he looked good.”

When it was pointed out to Hodgson that what he had actually seen was two of his U21 players on a PS4 playing a version of FIFA22 at the training ground, the chippy octogenarian said: "You look like a greek rapist. Why don't you and your shitty dictaphone just go and DO one".

Palace currently have a free weekend, having fallen at the first hurdle in the FA Cup against fellow strugglers Everton.

All this piss taking of palace, you know what happens next. Also with those players still at fkin afcon and whatever else there is, they could easily turn us over.

It all seriousness, just for a moment, it's a big decision for a talented footballer at that age. A real crossroads in what is a short career. What do you do? Live in a dreary, depressing town where it forever feels like 1983 and that 'real life' is happening elsewhere, in the hope that one day you’ll get spotted and plucked from perpetual misery? Or alternatively do you stay at Blackburn for another season?

I wish I cared…it’s not just palace it premier football in general.

I don’t bother watching football on tv anymore, but I do enjoy watching my local isthmian south east side, proper football.

It's strange isn't it, both my lads play in the Southern Combination and you feel so much closer to it all and valued in terms of what you outlay on the club

Who cares, life is too short and we mustn't let the opportunity to rub it in their faces pass by.

100% this, all this we shouldn’t, I’ve been getting crap for years by Palace fans and for supporting Brighton, I’m loving every minute of it and giving back out all I’ve taken. Yes, they could beat us, but I’m not about to sit politely in the corner just in case.

Up the Albion, we’re living the dream!

I remember about 20 years ago, the fanzine One More Point (or it might have been Eagle Eye) had a cover advertising for new rivals as we had not had the pleasure of playing you for several years and you seemed to be on a downward spiral. I am sure at the current rate of progress, you may end up putting out a similar advert for new rivals. Perhaps we should draw lots to see who should ask Crawley to be rivals...

Just out of curiosity, if not Palace, who would Brighton consider as their rivals?

older Brighton fans would perhaps say Portsmouth but ultimately their main rivalry is with Southampton of course. In my lifetime we've only been in the same league as them a few times so I can't say I'm that fussed about them. Only bugbear was growing up with Meridian/South Today and them and Southampton getting all the attention

certainly not Crawley as we've never been in the same division as them

ultimately no one is the answer
