Really pisses me off this. You can guarantee that if they can, they WILL risk him in this tournament, because they couldn't give a flying f*ck at a rolling donut about his condition beyond the next couple of weeks.

If they use him and he comes back crocked, then I will be writing a strongly worded letter to my MP.

The AFCON is also being played at the same time as the Asian Cup. Starts 13th Jan with the final 11th Feb. So that's Lamptey, Baleba and Adingra who could be unavailable at the same time Mitoma is.
Hopefully some of them may be able to channel the vibes of acute Ryan Giggs Munchausen syndrome at the start of the tournaments, and return home for a vigorous regime of recuperative, er, recuperation by way of first team action.

Club appearances: 627
International appearances (in 16 years): 64. That's 4 a year (includes friendlies). More than enough.

Better to write internationally, to your MEP.

Oh hang on....

It used to really piss me off when Premier League managers held back Gerrard / Rooney etc. from England games claiming they weren't 100%.

Now I get it.

There are many topics about arrogant premier league clubs you can find hypocritical posts on here from the Withdean days I’d imagine…

Unsurprisingly, he’s not in the squad.

Japan are all but certain to go through but hopefully they finish second in the group as that way they could meet South Korea in the next round.

To be fair to Japan, they’re probably pissed off he was never given a rest this season. He was running on empty before he got injured, it was so predictable.
We pay his wages. Not Japan.

We pay his wages ... blah blah blah

It's up to the player. They will decide whether to pursue international dreams. 99% of them do, presumably not for money but they know that's how their career will be defined. We want to have players good enough for international football, so we have to accept this as a hazard. Kaoru wanted to go, so tough s*** Brighton

And if it were Real Madrid trying to hold back Bellingham from a big England match, I'm sure many on here would take a different view.

Yes they do. FIFA compensate if a player is injured during an international break
Correct, players will be paid an appearance fee by their national FA for international games. England players donate that fee to charity, I believe a lot of the players of bigger nations also do this.

I believe clubs are only compensated if a player misses training for more than 28 days when injured on international duty.

Clubs also get a fee for every day a player from their club is involved in an international tournament. We got about £1.5million for the World Cup.

Brighton factually.....

I bet we have earnt more than that on the back of our players appearing and one wining the World Cup, our exposure sky rocketed.

Japan finish 2nd in their group.

If South Korea better Jordan’s result, or if they both win but SK manage a +2/3 goal difference swing over them (depending on goals scored) then Japan will meet South Korea in the next round. Unless Bahrain beat Jordan that is, then South Korea will just need a win to top the group. It’ll be interesting to see how that South Korea game pans out, they should comfortably beat Malaysia but I’m sure they’d rather avoid Japan.

The ramifications of that potential game will be significant as it will decide who returns to their club side first, Mitoma or Son, with the respective clubs playing each other fairly soon…
