[Misc] In a paragraph, what’s this world going to look like in 2050?

How the heck should I know, I’ll be extinct long before then - along with most other living species.

Ah. An opportunity for a bit of future gazing. As hard as I try, I cannot see into the future. So the following is a best guess.

In 2050, either climate change will have got worse, or nuclear war will have solved the problem for us.

Think of what is happening at present. Global warming. We are aware of it, but are unable/unwilling to do enough about it. In the thin slice of time that is right now, we can afford to be complacent, ignore the targets etc. Expediency rules while the future will take care of itself.

The thing is, that might happen. The future might indeed take care of itself.

If you think of the world as a system, then as the world warms, it will take the hindmost. Those most vulnerable. The elderly. The sick. Those who don't have the money to cool their environment. So there will be fewer people to warm the planet. Mankind is already beginning to adapt. Some commentators predict China to lose 600 million people in the next generation, due to the demographic shift.

It's fashionable to predict armageddon, but a permanently warming world is not a likely scenario. We will learn. Adapt. Accommodate. Mitigate. And then change it.

Google Gaia theory - the earth as a self-regulating system.

Note: this is just a hypothesis. But I do think there will be fewer of us.

So, about that idea that "those who don't have the money to cool their environment" will just perish. Do you think that the millions turning to billions of people who will soon be living in uninhabitable conditions will just accept their fate? Or will the natural human survival instinct kick in, meaning an exodus of unimaginable proportion heading to cooler climates? Unfortunately, I'm not sure they will be greeted with a warm welcome.

I’d like to invalidate this due to it being more than one paragraph

Palace Chairman Steve Parish, 87, today announced a fresh feasibility study into the proposed new stand at Selhurst Park. Defending the lack of any visible progress since work began in 2018, Parish pointed out that “that was LATE 2018. Like, almost 2019, really. Kind of. So, I mean, come on. Give us a chance.” Palace are currently 17th in the Elon Musk VRPL, a position they’ve occupied for the past 30 seasons.

The haves and have nots leading increasingly seperate lives. The have nots will be live in an increasingly violent society but will only be policed properly when this spills over into the ‘have’ part of society. The haves will fool themselves into how wonderful life is without realising how frighteningly dull both they and their existence have become. I will sit chortling at the outcome from either my spot in the bar, or the one in heaven/hell.

Is your spot in the bar with the haves or the have-nots?

After 26 years of Labour government it will mean the UK is a wealthy, fair and just nation with everyone happily going about their day sandwich bag in hand. Not sure about the rest of the world.

Despite my output on here, I genuinely think things will improve. We are slow to turn the tanker round, but we understand the problem, and many of us are working to try and turn things round. Those reluctant to even make small changes to their lives will eventually be brought round via regulation or their natural end. In 50 years I believe we will have made the changes that we need to have made, but not yet begun to see the benefits, so will be in a “light at the end of the tunnel.” phase.
