I won a competition and was lucky enough to be one of the first 20 or so children who got to go with the new waterslides in the mid-80s.

So how come the council can get away with just turning the area into a mass of flats, with no leisure centre for the city (other than building further out, where fewer people live)?

To think that the K2 was being slated on here just a few days ago.
Really ? I think it’s brilliant there. International judo events and a great athletics set up. Spent so much time there with my lad.

We swam in the proper old pool as youngsters, a lad at School was a great swimmer, Stephen Acres, I think he won the pier to pier race a few times.

early teens we played pool there and went bowling, used to get he bus over.

took my lad to the (modern 80's toss) pool until relatively recently (6-7 years ago?) The original pool should be restored. So should the original building, may as well do the bowling alley while your at it, and put something on top . . .so much prime space for a fantastic leisure facility.

But wait, 750 cardboard flats will generate a lot more income for the council. . .

Was only talking to someone today about birthday parties in the 70’s in Brighton or Hove, standard was King Alfred Ten Pin Bowling then next year down the Dolphinarium, I think one year we did break trend and went motor biking near Fontwell Race Course

I had my first swimming lesson in the old King Alfred pool, my mum didn’t warn us it was salt water!

No doubt the Council will want to replace the KA with housing (£££), thereby breaking national and local policy on putting housing in places vulnerable to flooding and coastal erosion.
Yep they are becoming really irritating at the moment, what with the go ahead of the VG 3 phase, closing Blackman Street at the Trafalgar Street End, and swathes of shitty build to rent apartments everywhere and then wonder why there are so many f***ing cars everywhere!!

We were taught to swim very young in the ‘smaller’ of the two giant (freezing) pools in about 1970. My parents arranged this because a friend of my older brothers who couldn’t swim had drowned in the sea. My older brothers in the late 60’s were members of Shiverers Club. I loved the cute cafe on the road side of the building after swimming, hot chocolates and one of these. In 2024 brat’s demand a complete Happy Meal :lolol: .
