I'm making bacon. Anyone else make their own food or drink stuff?

Ha ha. I sliced it at 5mm so it was nice and thick and it tasted great, sounds daft but it really tastes of bacon. I left the skin on so there was a crisp salty porky crunch to the sandwich every other bite or so. Every other bite was dunked into ketchup as well. Very satisfying.

What got me is that once all the kit is purchased it's very simple. But then cooking is often like this ie the greatest effort is assembling the ingredients etc.

So are you going to try different cures next? Or maybe smoking over different woods? You could try different cuts. I love middle cut bacon - Frewins at Rustington is my usual haunt for this - but there are so few places who sell it these days.

I'll stick the the current simple cure for the next batches I think, extending the curing period to see what affect it has. Once I am confident with this and happy with the cure time the next step will be smoking.

I made some seriously good Pear Drop Vodka last week. OK, I know it's not exactly rocket science and not like making the vodka itself, but still bloody nice. Going to try doing After Eight Vodka next.

Marmalade vodka is an easy one, and also, get this, toffee vodka. Just put 20 werthts originals into a litre of cheap vodka and lea to soak for 6 days, shake occasionally. It is unbelievable.

Just remember to unwrap them first.

Tried my own venison biltong this year with mixed results tbh.

It’s amusing revisiting this thread. My bacon making was short lived as a kiwi started making proper bacon and has over the years has become rather successful and now services most of the higher end cafes and restaurants, as well as the public, with his products.

I make my own Granola.

Just bought a Yoghurt maker, so will start using it when my current shop bought one is finished

I used to do granola, but haven't done for a while. Easily done.
Still make muesli with nine ingredients.
Also used to make my own sourdough for about a decade.
