I actually don't mind this. Airports lost loads of money during lockdown. I'd personally rather they had a drop off charge than increase landing slot fees which impact flight costs and the vast majority of people who don't use the drop off. Everyone else has subtly increased costs in the last couple of years. At least they're open about it

Just saying. If you can afford a holiday, you can afford £5 for the convenience of a taxi / friend dropping you off a minute away from the check in desks. Or just drive yourself and pay for parking and walk / get the free bus. I don't really know what the moaning is about

Anyone flying/their families can afford the fiver.

Less than the cost of a pint in the plasticky Gatwick ‘pub’.

The actual words are "help reduce congestion" and allow it to "reinvest in sustainable transport".

Both seem plausible goals from a price increase.
And you fall for that type of marketing rubbish ?

It costs a fiver for half an hour in the short stay car park so you may as well park go use the bathroom to drop a deuce and actually get your moneys worth rather than just use the drop off.
That car park is as tight as a gnatt's chuff though. Make the fukkers get a bus to and from the long stay car park.

Gods country fortnightly
Lets face it flying is cheap with huge tax breaks, no duty on kerosene, no VAT on flights. The £6 isn't going to break the bank...

I did a drop off last month. When I put my plate into the website later to pay, there was no record of it...

I have no explanation, except for the fact that you do pass a sign telling you to drive straight through if not dropping off and you won't be charged. Maybe I chucked the Mrs out quickly enough for it not to register!

Within 24 hours later? Or to be more precise before midnight the next day?

We use Gatwick regularly and in the last 10 years we have variously

Paid £5 (now £6) for drop off or pick up.
Got the free bus to the Long term car park and got drop off/pick up for free
Got the coach up from outside Miller and Carter at Patcham and got off at the Terminal
Got the Train up from Preston Park and got off at the terminal
Driven up and booked the long term car park
Driven up and booked an off-terminal car park and got a free bus in
Driven up and booked a 'Greet and meet' car parking company
Got a cab

And I always thought I was spoiled for choice

It’s simply a lie.

It’s a revenue raiser. Which I don’t mind paying.
Indeed. If only they could be honest about it .... rather than dress it up as "helping the environment" codswallop.

They are being honest; they clearly state they will re-invest revenue.

You can pay online later than they say, in November I forgot until 3 days later then paid it. No fine.
Indeed. I tried several times but was never able to pay, it kept telling me there was 'no record' of my registration number. This was early Dec.

They did rather well out of me. In the payment process at the final online hurdle it failed/crashed, so I kept trying. Eventually it worked. I later noticed 4 lots of £5 debited :( ….not worth a phone call to remedy.

Reminds me of a an order I made on Gorillas…a grocery home delivery app. It crashed, I eventually paid but then noticed I now had two identical orders. They pride themselves on their speed so it was packed and out for delivery by the time I investigated a cancellation. They were delivered by two separate courier bikes with 2 minutes of each other.

It was a Friday order mainly consisting of beers, crisps and chocolate. I’ve had bigger issues.
