I can’t really be bothered with fireworks, nothing about them makes me go “oh wow amazing”, why people stare at them and want to stand in the cold and sometimes rain to see them is beyond my comprehension.
Animals hate them, it’s time to stop wasting money on them.

The London display was in part, about Windrush, inclusivity and welcoming everyone. A good thing I think.
Compare that with this interview the recently departed John Pilger made in 2013, interviewing ordinary Australians on Australia Day.
Warning: some breathtaking opinions. Especially around the 2 minute mark. 'The aboriginals want to live in shocking conditions'.

Watched the London fireworks on TV. I thought they were pretty good.
We watched them - technically brilliant, true, but couldn't help feeling that it was a little OTT. After a few minutes, the 'Wow' factor was actually a little lost; it was a bit too much. Maybe they were trying too hard?
Oh, and we also said "Oooh, some of these 'messages' will upset the free-speech loving Right", as this thread has sadly proved
