Worthing
Not personally, thankfully.
A previous job (banking related) I dealt with numerous customers who had been scammed or victims of fraud. One stand out though was a lovely chap who was contacted out the blue by someone claiming they knew him years before. Said he had a betting thing going whereby they're scamming the bookies, gave a whole detailed break down of how it worked and the victim would send money and then receive a cheque for winnings afterwards. They gave him one or 2 cheques so he thought genuine until they stopped and gave every excuse under the sun. Long(er) story short he parted with 450k. Most of which was his business funds, heartbreaking to see

I'd forgotten about my silent mugging that occurred when I was 18. I had a "friend" from snooker club and invited him back home for a drink ( no, not what your thinking, I'm hetro) watch a video and he goes home. I go into work on Monday and I'm escorted into managers office on arrival - I worked in a bank - I was asked to explain why I was 600 overdrawn 3 days before payday. In them days we didn't have debit cards only ATMs and it seems 3 lots of 200 had been taken from my account. Long story short the manager drove me home to get my card which was missing. I was told to admit I'd spent it or could face termination. I had to convince him to take me to the police station to report the theft. Bank made me take a few days off whilst they decided next steps. Cops called me in for interview ( I guess bank asked them) and I got the good cop bad cop routine.. Was I being blackmailed or threatened then did I have gambling debts, was I on drugs etc. Anyway already long story short, bank let me come back to work and said they can't prove I did take the money but couldn't prove it was a crime so made me pay the debt back over 6 months. However, there was a clear lack of trust. I was turned over for a promotion twice and eventually realised I had to leave.
Oh and the "friend" I bumped into him about 5 years later and after a vague apology he admitted it was him and he'd spent 18 months inside for several burglaries. Karma,

karma? Presume he didn’t admit it when in court. And you were £600 down with a black mark against your name and career.

I think if I had met him sooner I might have been more angry but in the end he likely did me a favour. I got a job for Amex and stayed there almost 35 years.

Had a gun pushed into my back by the Civil Spanish Police who took me to the floor. It was a wrong place right time scenario where some guy from Cardiff we later found out just collapsed in front of me and hit his head. Being a lump and 6ft 5 the Guardia immediately thought I'd clocked him. Thankfully after being thrown to the ground a group of nurses from Manchester explained I hadn't touched him and after what seemed like ages they let me go. No apologies given though but I bought the rather lovely nurses a drink. Was rather scary ag the time though

One from my late Dad, told
me he was in a taxi queue in Purto Pollenca and a local family with kids were working the taxi line. Most of the ex pats were more than happy to help and gave a few euros each.

As my dad approached the front of the queue the family walked to the front of the queue, threw their rags in a bush and jumped in the next cab and presumably went home!

I've just got back from Rome and a taxi driver conned me and my girlfriend out of 60 Euros. It's not too much, but it was bloody annoying. Anyone got any related horror stories?
Never been mugged, been burgled once, and had people try scams on me on a few places, mostly taxi drivers.

Burgled: Central Brighton when I had a ground floor flat in Steine Street, Came home from work and the door was kicked in. They stole the coins in my change jar (oddly just the coins, left the jar, there were a lot in there, I sure it would have neem easier to just take the jar. Also, I'd unusually left my wallet at home so they got a small amoint of cash and all my cards. This was back in the day before chip and pin so they used them and took a few hundred from my bank account and more on my Barclaycard. I got all that back though under the Visa guarantee. The police asked me to contact the bank and get the exact times the cards were used, I did and they checked CCTV in some of the sores and actually caught the guy.

Taxi scams, the biggest trier was in Istanbul, I paid with a fairly large note because I didn't have change, the driver tried to pretend I'd given him a lower note than I had and then suddenly "couldn't speak English" when I argued, I got aggressive and threatening and refused to get out of the cab and he backed down and gave me the note back. Probably not the wisest move on my part, it could have gone badly.

I had someone try to pull the "gold ring" scam on me in Paris and someone else the "friendship bracelet" scam in Rome, but I'd heard of them both and didn't fall for them.
