Jees…… I get that Brighton geographically/ politically is a right on, anti tory(boo), left wing/socialist/right side of history (questionable) city in UK…….but
That is not a pre-requisite to support the Albion FFS….
Just be happy for Tony and all he’s all done for the football cub.
I’m a season ticket holder because Tony built the stadium, because he had the vision and ambition to make the club bigger and more successful it has ever been.
It’s never political, social or religious to be a supporter of the club.
Ever

Jolly good

Philip Green still has a Knighthood for taxpayers buying him super yachts.

All these titles are ridiculous and cheapened.

If the MBE puts a smile on TBs already smiley face and makes him happier

. I don't begrudge him a moment of extra happiness.

But it's utter bullshit
Please get off your soapbox, no one is listening.

I’m a Glaswegian who was brought up in the 70’s/80/‘s who now happens live in Sussex and who has felt and experienced the hatred from both sides at old firm games. I have experienced political, religious bigotry at football and it’s not pleasant. You still see it today and it should be stamped out, on all sides, not just Protestant and Catholic, who were spilt at schools.
Don’t presume to know someone from posts in a football forum.
So posting a BBC sport link you think educates me…. No; idiot

Sorry .... I didn't mean that at all.

I meant that unfortunately these terrible things are a thing ... Not that they should be in any way.

I'm 52 years old and have a friend down here who grew up in Glasgow of a similar age who has told me what things were like in his school years.

Absolutely horrendous.

It's nice to see one of these gongs awarded for all the right reasons. Well done Tony.

Indeed, this year's crop of sports stars are a decent crop. I'm pleased for Jeff Stelling, he is a legend.

I am, as are many others.

The honours system is a broken steaming pile of horseshit. You can't put that to one side because someone who actually deserves recognition gets recognised under this silly system. Any other thought smacks of hypocrisy.

Tony deserved to be recognised clearly. But not alongside dubious politicians, friends and family of dubious politicians, donors to either, clapped out luvvies and an award named after a very embarrassing part of history.

Needs total reform.

Hanging out with Rishi at the cricket in the summer clearly helped them

As much as I’m normally political, as much as I don’t think there should even have been a British Empire, my first thought on this was it was well deserved recognition for the best football owner in the business.

There should be more Blooms and less Saudi / Abu Dhabi proxies.

Well done boss, about time.

I was annoyed that I didn't notice the other Honours List thread when I checked to see if Tony Blooms news was on here.

I then thought actually this might just work out for the best.
We can have the love in here and (once again) celebrate the man who has bought so much happiness, as well as £60,000,000+ annually, to Sussex.

While also having a ready made thread for all the usual people to say all the usual stuff about politics and the monarchy.

Oh well.

Fair point

I'll go back to masturbating over images of the sub-continenent pre partition
Whatever floats your boat.

I’m not arguing about the rights and wrongs of the honours system as cronyism will always be involved, but TB has been awarded the MBE for services to football and the city of Brighton & Hove and that is what this thread is about.

A separate thread on the merits / demerits of the honours system / British Empire would’ve been more appropriate.

Gods country fortnightly
I understand where some are coming from about the honours system, the fact the E in MBE stands for empire is a total embarrassment.

But the fact is Tony deserves to the recognised in the system we have.

He’s the best owner in the English pyramid, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We’re very lucky to have him, someone that cares deeply about the Albion.

Well done Tony, you’ve made us the envy of fans across the country
