Thanks chaps. I won't be troubling the scorers anyway. Once this cough shifts it will be gradual and slow until I've got my lungs back and blubber off, so go ahead without me. I'll wave the pom poms on the sidelines.

Take it easy, GB – there is no rush, with nothing really to train or aim for. The thing I've noticed over the last couple of months is that it doesn't take too long to get back into it, even if you're out for a while. Here's hoping you make a full recovery, anyway...

As for me, I'm built for the longer stuff, so I won't be troubling the top of the Mile table anytime soon

Hi all - got back into running over this lockdown period and enjoying getting back out there. Not really sure why I stopped to be honest, but goes to show how quickly you can get out of a routine! Has anyone used any sort of device that would allow me to listen to my podcasts without taking my phone out (partly because its quite heavy and also its nice to get away from the phone). Thinking similar to one of those tiny ipods but that has bluetooth to send the postcasts to airpods.

Did 17 miles yesterday in 2hr28 which im feeling in my legs today!

Seen a few people stateside undertaking a 4*4*48 challenge...

Run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. Invariably most run 6 as their final leg to round up to 50 miles.

This appeals to me - it doesn't feel as though it should be too difficult, other than two 4am shifts (assuming a 4, 8, 12 o'clock rotation), and even those would be made easier if you have a treadmill at home. I might give this a go once we have more freedom to swan about again.

What's everyone else's thoughts on how difficult this would be?

Maybe have a look at this first.

Someone earlier on posted Beau Miles' "Run the Line" video but I enjoyed this more. He's as mad as a hatter. Plus, if you were going to build a stereotypical Aussie from scratch, you'd end up with him. He basically ran one mile every hour in a loop round his house, but started with a 5k, to make a marathon in exactly 24 hours. In between he made a big list of jobs to see how much you could accomplish in a day.

The big challenge was - guess what - sleep. I pretty much guarantee your average body clock isn't going to want to go for a 4 mile run every four hours during the night.

I'm quite a night owl and get by on relatively little sleep, although I need more now than I did when I was younger. I think I could cope with getting up in the middle of the night to run for 30-40 minutes each time. I think it will be the mileage accumulation that I'ld struggle with, something this "100-mile training week" had me realise (also a good watch):

Can anyone shed any light on this? I run 10k most days of the year. Racking up 300km a month is a big deal to me. How does someone get over 7000km in 27 days?

It can be legit or can it?

That's an average of over 11km/h if he was running non-stop for 27 days. So, no, it's not legit.

I'd like to submit a time to the board for consideration for the GNT mile table. I wasn't actually running a mile, I was running 3k for a competition in my rugby club, but my watch gave my mile record time at 5:05 with an AG according to that Howard Grubb calculator at 73:05%. Can I enter that time or does it need to be the time for just a mile?

Impressive time! Under the rule set yesterday it cannot be counted. Watch must start from standing. Post the Strava link, if you want to appeal, and we could reassess.

At the worst it won't be difficult to run that on it's own.

Loved this. I am (of course) a running bore (which is different form a boring runner - but I'm one of those too) and I've noticed people's eyes glaze over when I start to list my achievements or - even better - explain the methodology, purpose and infinite fairness of age grading. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

These are this year's weirdo shoe, not yours, which are relatively normal in comparison!

He's just released a video where he puts them side by side and reveals which shoe he'd choose for his next marathon (he only ran his first road marathon last year, doing so in in 2:19ish, but he's clearly very talented and does a lot of hilly trail work in Colorado).

Spoiler: he choose your ones over the freak-shoe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwl0vkzqiDo

Seth makes some really good content and is a rapid runner. His background is mostly mountain trail running, competing at a pretty high national level (represented Team US in a world mountain trail championship race last year in Argentina I think) and turned to the roads and marathon running last year. He is very quick.

He's been publishing a YouTube vlog every day for a few years now and mixes it up between shoe reviews, some very good training advice and some funny general family life in the Denver area. Definitely recommend checking out some of his vlogs.

Good luck Guinness Boy. Sounds like the infection is near the end.

The GNT Mile Challenge is beginning to snowball. Time for a lockdown table to be produced by the clerk.
Plus an early rule?
1. Garmin distance must start from standstill and then shall we take the watch mile and run through by 5-10 seconds? Giving no watch fiddling at finish and time for a controlled deceleration avoiding injury from suddenly pulling up. GNT’s decision needed.

Looking forward to the challenge. The virtual vest I’m sitting behind, hoping to pick off on the home straight is Bozza I reckon 10 seconds between us one way or another unless he smashes 6:00.

Rest day today. Just had 10 hours of the heaviest sleep I can remember. Zzzzz....

In line with the regulations set out for the GNTMC #20951, I ran a 6:39 AG 69.36% this morning and claim 3rd place on the table before any of these fast f*****s declare a valid attempt!!

Actually, after weeks of just jogging and walking was fearing much worse. Will try and summon up the enthusiasm for hill reps in the park across the road to try and get some speed work in.
