Likely lost around 5k on a holiday to Cyprus planned for April. I can work from home (good), indefinitely (good), servicing and consulting for the insurance industry (very, very bad). Once a large reinsurer goes I expect the funding to dry up quicker than a nun's ninny.

I work in the NHS so the job is always safe, it’s been strange couple of weeks very much a calm before the storm feeling.

Other half however works for a travel company that’s been struggling for a few months now, it looks very much liked Covid 19 will be the final nail in that coffin. Already offered voluntary redundancies last week which a couple have taken.

My biggest concern is that I own a second house which I rent out, the tenant is a cleaner so I’m concerned about a problem with paying rent.

Which would in turn give me problems with mortgage payments. I have a fair bit saved though which should see us through with abit of luck, if I need to I can always take extra shifts! There is plenty going!

My thoughts go out to those with less of a safety net.

I'm on holiday at the moment, but my boss called earlier today as he'd been told by HR to check everybody would still be ok to work even if the schools closed.

So I'm guessing I'll be back to work on Friday.

I'm sure there's a lot of buy to let property owners a tad concerned. Tis the risk you take, I suppose.

So, by advising people not to attend pubs, theatres, restaurants, cinemas as opposed to making it government policy Boris Johnson has saved the insurance companies from big handouts and doomed a huge number of businesses. He truly is a man of the people.

President Macron has just announced these measures to fight Covid_19....

All non-essential movement to be banned from Tuesday midday for 15 days; residents must stay at home
Punishments for those flouting the regulations
Army to be used to help transport the sick to hospital
Military hospital to be used in Alsace, near German border
Borders to be closed in agreement with other European Union countries
Second round of local elections postponed
No business, regardless of size, will be allowed to fail

The last comment is reassuring , I wonder if Johnson will match that this side of the channel ?

That does appear to be the case.

Our company has decreed that the office based staff can all work from home yet the sales team and operational staff, me, are expected to go to the pubs and restaurants.

One, who in the world needs to see someone trying to sell in a new beer? Two, who needs a quality manager when there's no one drinking? The only advice I can give is how to mothball the draught systems.

I'm angry. Where's the leadership? Where's the reassurance for working people? For the elderly? For renters? For anyone? Sake, that press conference was vague as F∞¢k. Where's the tests for health workers, doctors?

I think that is what needs to be said, governments CAN print money when necessary. I think I heard that leo Varadkar has said that anyone in Ireland who has to self isolate or is unable to work will receive their normal wage from their employer but that the government will subsequently reimburse the employer. Countries responses to this disaster are varied but many seem much more supportive of their citizens than we are it would seem.

Yes.
Johnson conceded the coronavirus outbreak was set to be a “severe blow” to the economy. But quizzed on specific measures to assist firms and staff, he gave no details beyond general pledges to assist liquidity and make sure workers did not lose out by self-isolating.

By his own admission, he is not a "Numbers Man ".... any sort of solid pledge would open him up to a barrage of questions that he could not/would not be able to answer coherently, that's why he has made a career out of being evasive.

Self-isolation is not the main problem for workers, it is losing their job as with todays announcements many sectors will be exposed to falling football on the high street and being effectively closed.
I believe many will be far harsher than Virgin Atlantic 8 weeks unpaid leave.

Unless the Government better communicate their package to business and indeed increase their assistance, the economy will not pick up after the virus has gone as far too many will have closed forever.

sounds like undeliverable promise. will be implict state nationalisation to cover any and all costs for undetermined time. its not undoable, but what happens to moral hazard?
