Is there actually much going on this transfer window? From my brief watching of sky sports in the evening, even they are trouble to find much going on.
Duffy leaving, Maupay leaving for £40 million, Murray going to Forest, Dunk off to Chelsea, Connolly having a strop on social media - obviously off.

Plenty to discuss [emoji38]ol:

Cant see it if I'm honest.

Big risk to spunk millons initially + commit to millions for a few years when in danger of dropping. We are losing money as it is in this league. If we drop we would be in trouble financially as it is

Think we will go with what we have got

We tried that this time last year and nearly paid the ultimate price. Last year we also slept walked into trouble, this year it is clear we need to make some changes and improve our options..This make no mistake is a BIG challenge and defining moment for the club. Stick and we go down, twist at least we give ourselves a fighting chance..

To be absolutely fair, last January we did sign Mac Allister which may yet pay dividends this season...

As each game passes it will look an ever more increasingly desperate decision.

Assuming everybody at the club is as good at their job as they say they are, then ejaculating millions 01.01.20 on an essential purchase seems like common sense.

Whereas waiting till 31.01.20 for the right price, x other deals to fall into place, squeezing tightly to your principles, etc, seems like madness taking into account what's at stake.

I know it's not black and white.
I know it's not the same as popping down to Tescos.
I know this stuff is seriously fookin complicated.

But EVERYBODY has known this was going to happen.
The process of finding the potential striker targets must have been finalised in December.

None of which are coming from 'big' clubs on 'big' money.
Shirley then a club/player can be tempted to make the transfer early thanks to an extra 'jingle-jangle'.

Paying over the odds for 6 or 9 points offsets any savings almost immediately.

but Potter is on record of saying there is a lot more to get out of the players he has.

TB will prob think why spend out when the manager has suggested he can more out the group

This is my concern, Potter is on record many times for saying that he believes in the players and get more. My concern is how much can he actually get from Maupay, Murray and Connolly.

Murray has 0 goals this season, Connolly has 2 both from the Spurs game in November. Maupay has 7, which is ok but 9 goals from our three strikers is abysmal. We haven’t had a striker score for seven games now. That’s unbelievable.

Is that not more a case of Potter playing down possible transfers until they actually happen, in case it/they fall through? If he came out and said "Look, we're getting desperate for a [player position] and we're trying our hardest to sign someone", and that doesn't happen for whatever reason (e.g. confusion on the M25 or whatever), then there would be a bit of a kerfuffle...

I think... hope... he is just being careful with what he says until things are cast in stone.

The club needs a lift, we're in the doldrums, time to get a fresh face in the changing room to get us all buzzing again.

Being given, and happy with, 3 strikers, only one of which is close to his prime, makes Potter either a good company man or an idiot - He ain't no idiot.

I put this down to the club holding so tightly to their principles, they've lost sight of the bigger picture.

Sure nobody wants to do a palace.
None of us in Mr Bloom's position would do a palace and think they can just £120,000 a week Bentacky it's way out of this.

But the Albion 1.2 (in fairness the Albion in general) has always had a blind spot with strikers.
That is currently in the form of Barber complaining about bubbles et al.

But at some point somebody needs to rip the plaster off.
Take the plunge, pay a stoooopid amount of money, (the going rate) and buy striker (s).

Not doing so cost us promotion.
It almost bought us relegation.
That history is looking like repeating.

What has to happen for the club to think 'We reckon x is worth £15m, but his club want £25m, pay £20m and get a shirt ready for him to hold'. (still very small sums of money for a striker of any age or ability)

How much better does £20m Webster become defending a 2-0 lead, instead of worrying one mistake could lead to relegation?

The problem is I think Potter can get more out of the players he has available. The big question is will he be able to do it in time.

There is no way we will not buy a striker before the window SLAMS shut.

It was obvious that D Day was coming as soon as the club let go of Andone and Locadia

Best way to guarentee it is -

- a 1 in 3 or higher goal per game ratio in serie A , Bundesliga , premier league ( over more than a 25 game period )
- a 1 in 2 ratio in La Liga ( over a 25 game + period )

That will prob not be possible as other prem sides will be in and unlikelt we will beat anyone to a signing £

So yes , whoever we get will come with large amounts of risk

New signings inspire others to perform. When Locadia was bought (Injured) in Jan 2018 Murry went on a superb scoring run and put in some of his best performances for the club. Coincidence? I honestly don’t think so. New players breathe new life into teams and push other players that may feel complacent. Competition for places will push the players on to perform.

Last Jan no one (Well, no one that wasn't loaned out) was signed and we know how the season went on from there. I know they have to be the right player for us but the backroom staff need to bring someone in ASAP. Striker is the obvious one.

Don't know who's doing well but I think I read Fortuna are struggling and I imagine Mainz are to.

Therefore , we need to sign

Raman whos 24
Meleta whos 22

Second one looks out of our range stats wise.

Therefore we need to sign

Ramen from Fortuna

and we need to put our entire hopes on this guy

***edit - Ramen is only 5ft8 . So must be shithouse**

They have already done so, with Maupay, and previously (allowing for slight inflation) with Locadia

Not that I'm suggesting for a second that we don't desperately need another one now - just disputing the suggestion they've never paid those figures.
