Hughton said yesterday that there are three nominated penalty takers. We know who two of them are. Haven't got a clue about the third.

I was amazed it wasn't Ali for the 2nd to be honest. Had an excellent record in Holland, and always put them top corner (which all the stats say, if you can do without missing, very rarely get saved).

At half time on Tuesday night, a few of the subs took a few shots from the penalty spot with no keeper to beat. Propper hit the bar.

I like to see a player make his mind up, pick a spot and thump it there if is saved so be it but at least it will be a worthy effort.

Gross has taken two penalties this season, and both have been bloody terrible. He was lucky against United, but found out yesterday. We need to let Murray take them, unless he's not on the field.

It seems like it's only Brighton fans that think it was an awful penalty. The comments I've seen on sky seem to be more about praising the save. I'm not saying "the experts on tv" are saying it was a great penalty, but it's not unusual to see worse ones. Perhaps the blue tinted specs have made it seem worse because of the effect it had on the result.
I would also point out that the man many feel most comfortable with taking penalties for us, Hemed, also failed to score a couple of his penalties.
Some people are a bit too reactionary when it comes to penalties. You missed so it was the worst penalty ever and you should never go near a penalty kick again, and the previous ones you scored were lucky that the keeper didn't do enough, etc. This guy just scored one, so he should take them all from now on even though he failed to score his last two (including one that missed the goal as bad as March did his one on one...

I think that the reason for our disappointment was that he made it so obvious where he was going to put it prio to actually kicking it so it was easy for the keeper to guess correctly. With little power on it the rest was easy.

Except the two penalties that gross has scored also were actually quite poor, both nearly saved. He just doesn’t seem confident in taking them.

fair enough. But imo it’s not reactionary to say that gross’ pens have been poor, they genuinely have been poor.

Gross's two penalties have been very poor. Both straight at the keeper one luckily went in the other was a pass back.

Shooting into the bottom left hand corner of the goal is not a pass back. It was an excellent save.

MOTD and the commentary on Seagulls Tv also praised the save rather than criticise the penalty. I'm not sure there was a lot of power in the shot, but it wasn't 'poor'.

I put PG's penalty down to a good save it wasn't the same as his first which was awful.
Also didn't GM miss an awful pen last year
He has the Pen shirt at the moment, but I wouldn't rule out Gross taking more.Like other's have said before, Tomer was the man to take a Pen.

It was an awful penalty. His body shape and run up made it so obvious that he was putting it in that corner, the keeper had forever to put a big dive in.
It's lazy punditry to say it was good because it was in the corner. These days the best penalty takers can disguise what they're doing and practically roll the ball in because they know the keeper won't be there.

Bettinelli is known to be a good penalty kick saver by anticipating and diving so the obvious answer, knowing he would dive, was to hit it hard straight down the middle.
