they say that all your cells regenerate and are replaced over time, some faster than others, so that after 7-8 years you are completely renewed. like Trigger's Broom. however i suspect that may be bobbins.

i'd hazard a guess its LIFO from general metabolism as the newer fat is more accessible, not behind layers of older fat.

Once you get to 45 there are cells which don't renew hence the 45 eye, and you find that older people end up wearing glasses or having laser treatment.

Good question I await the answer.

My metabolism is ridiculous when exercising and so my fat must be recycled.

Perversely eating coconut fat may get rid of fatty deposits around the chubby body. The way the medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) are digested helps boost metabolism and increase energy.

Coconut oil is a tremendous laxative....if you're ever a bit bunged up, just drink a tablespoonful.

Bodies need calories to expend energy. Calories from sugar in the form of glucose, fructose, lactose, sucrose, dextrose etc. If there are no sugars, then the body will start to burn fat via ketosis.

Nah! Think of a vein in cross section. Fat molecules are travelling down the vein and get transported (like in Star Trek) through the vein wall and deposited on the other side. Later, new fat molecules also get transported across the venous wall, but the transporter beam is only powerful enough to transport them to JUST over the border (like immigrants into the US from Mexico). Thus the older fat molecules are farther away from the centre of the vein than the newer ones.

Now, you go on a diet/exercise splurge - something else happens which means that the top layer is removed first, as well as a reverse transport beam (Beam me up, Scotty) being deployed by, I don't know, the Pituitary gland.

Clear now?

I did say that I had no clue - but hopefully the references to immigration and TV Sci Fi will have made that clear...

All about diet. A lot harder now I'm nearing my 30's.

I used to train in the gym in my early 20's, 5/6 times a week. Ate really well and did cardio too. I was at about 7% in the peak of my training.

In my early teens I couldn't put on a pound. No matter how bad my lifestyle.

Now though, if I look at a donut I put on weight. I blame marriage and kids.

Not just diet - it's combination of diet and exercise...........if you take on more calories than you burn, the excess will be stored as fat - quite simple really at that level. Metabolism tends to slow as you age too (so we need to eat less and/or move more, basically)

I’m not sure that has been confirmed by any peer reviewed scientific research. Indeed this report, written by Lockyer and Stanner of the British Nutrition Foundation, states ‘To our knowledge, there is no reported evidence of coconut oil increasing metabolic rate in humans.’

It's got information from health professionals ('they say'), the best simile with my broom ever, and personal opinion on the former thrown into the mix.

and yet gives no real answer either. its a skill.

Metabolism is also affected by dodgy thyroid glands like Hashimotos disease.

Having a knee problem my doctor told me to exercise to firm up my calf and thigh muscles. I found a PT at a gym. He sorted knee out in no time.

As I had enjoyed the exercising I continued, diverting to other forms of exercise. BUT I could not lose fat that I wanted to.

The PT said exercising alone will not lose fat, diet is as important, so he advised me what to eat and what not. However, you have to be very strict with yourself but I am not. Still like the odd chocolate and biscuit so don't get rid of all the fat I want to.

Since exercising however, I get weighed regularly and my weight has dropped by nearly a stone, body fat is down and body muscle is up. So without being a fitness fanatic am generally happy with my body.

That presupposes that fat is deposited from, say, the body cavity. What if it is instead (at least in part) deposited directly from the blood stream through a venous wall, and thus builds up from the bottom, not added to from the top?

the detail i dont know but seems to me that the process that stores fat would be reversed to take back the fat - LIFO. for FIFO you'd need a second mechanism at the other end of the deposits of fat to take the older deposits away.

On the basis that muscle weighs more than fat I put weight gain down to increased muscle - mostly deposited in a non six pack formation around the belly region.

I may've said it before, but we have a feeder at work. Since bubba Meade was born I have been in need of sugary stuffs to keep me vibrant. This chap started at work, and took it upon himself to malnourish us with a daily supply of biccies, crisps, unt chocolates. This fellow runs 18 miles a day and of course doesn't gain a ghastly pound. My 45 minute cycles to work and back weren't enough to rid me of all that I devoured. So the bulges became grotesque. In the past week, though, I have resisted his fattening allure, and I do feel rather fresh. Ok, I have replaced his fiendish temptations with a bowl of granola, or the like, but it's beginning to work. I made jest of it at work that I was a mere 3 years from beach body ready, but I guess that may be an accurate prediction really. And bubba Meade does seem to enjoy the ripples of his slap to my paunch.
