Word is, and seems to have been confirmed by the investigation, that he genuinely had no idea. I thought he was toast but hey ho. " Substantial Sanctions " to be announced regarding the others though.

We've got to assume Lehmann genuinely had no idea, because they would have gone nuclear with him too. It was being reported he would resign, perhaps he will once the series is done.

Be interesting to see if the 'substantial sanction's are 1 year bans for Smith & Warner tomorrow.

I suspect, though I could be wrong, that the findings of the independent review into the culture and conduct of the Australian mens team Cricket Australia are launching and Darren Lehmann staying on as head coach might not be too compatible.

If Lehmann knew, he is complicit and should have been fired.

If Lehmann didn't know, clearly his senior players had no confidence or trust in him and he should have been fired.

His reputation is shot by this and other things, but the ball tampering does appear at the moment to have been caused by David Warner becoming a law unto himself, though due process is still ongoing.

Seems this has bought the best out of the leadership team as they stab each other in the back as the blame game starts.

All fingers now trying to point at Warner which makes sense if collusion so Smith can return at some point.

I thought I heard that they would get one year bans and that Smith/ Warner will never captain/vice captain again.

Update from the always-good-value Jim Maxwell:

Having travelled on the team plane from Cape Town, I was in one of those awkward situations where I wanted to say something to Steve Smith but whatever I said, it wasn't going to go the right way. I did say something and then he turned his head away so I had to go and speak to the security. I told him to tell Steve that there is a tomorrow, and you should have been more vigilant in what was happening on the field.

Warner's the one who really should wear most of this, and I'll be very surprised if he plays for Australia again. He's clearly been ostracised by the rest of the players, I could see that in the body language on the plane, so I think he's pretty close to persona non grata from here on.

My understanding of the conversation is that it went like this. They were about to go out after lunch, and Smith saw Bancroft and Warner in collusion. He said "what are you blokes doing? I don't want to know what you're doing", and then he went out onto the field.

Unfortunately, he didn't realise exactly how dire the act they were about to perpetrate on the field was. The cameras got them and Smith is going to cop a ban.

I can't help feeling it's easier for them to ostracise Warner as he's (1) older and (2) not the world's number one ranked batsman currently...

Not a good reporting style in my book, we don't expect that from the BBC.

I daresay they do it anyway, it's just that you don't normally see the actual doorstepping in action, surely?

Whether Lehmann knew or not he should be dismissed.

Michael Clarke doesn't appear too happy about developments thus far on Twitter:

Smacked of desperation though

Re Maxwell I totally agree...he’s always good value

Love listening to him when he's on TMS. Comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke. And very soothing to listen to.

I don't know about you Edna, I think it's rather snide and petty.....if it was Dennis Pennis doing it fair enough but Dan Roan ?

This cheating has been long running. Australian reaction has shown it wasn't a one off. Guilty as ****. Would they inflict these punishments for a bit of gritty tape used after lunch?

Leave it at that and hope Test cricket has a future.
