Deal completed:

Sunderland have completed the permanent signing of Kazenga LuaLua on a short-term deal.

The 27-year-old winger joins from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a contract until the end of the 2017-18 season.

LuaLua began his career with Newcastle United before loan spells with Doncaster Rovers and Brighton.

He joined the south-coast club permanently in 2011, making over 100 appearances before two separate loan spells with Queens Park Rangers in the last year.

Speaking about the signing, Sunderland manager Chris Coleman said: “Kaz was determined to come here and get playing first-team football again and I look forward to helping him play the kind of football he is capable of.

“He’s quick, skillful and has a lot of experience at this level. He gives us another option in attack and, most importantly, is up for the fight.”

I think Coleman will get some great value from Kaz as he does have a point to prove, Hughton was never going to use him much because he is to single minded in wanting to defend.
I hope he gets a couple of moral boosting seasons without injury.

He was a unpredictable, unplayable power machine, and I loved him for that.

LuaLua leaves the club after making a total of 183 appearances, scoring 22 goals for the club, the last of which came in a 4-2 win over Oxford United in the EFL Cup back in August 2016.

Good luck Kaz, he was an exciting player for us, a good servant and key to getting the bus on the road to promotion.

Always seemed to work hard and had some amazing moments especially early in seasons.

Right time to move on and keep his career going. Could be a genius in L1 or useful squad player in Championship. Fingers crossed he plays rather than just eating chicken and updating social media.

Not sure about freeing up a space as I don't recall him being in the registered 25 man squad. It does however provide additional wage budget to be used.

If he stays fit he will be useful to Sunderland. Some good days for us but always seemed to get injured when he was enjoying a run in the starting 11.

Still amazes me that the RB he sat down on that run down the left wing was Simon Francis who's now played 3 seasons in the Premier League with Bournemouth
