He regularly sat in front of me in WSL. Always good to see ex players still supporting the team. Sad news.

Very sad news. As stated above, one of our own. A Rudyard Kipling boy if I recall. A wholehearted player and an unsung part of the 76/77 team and its ridiculous home record - W 19 D 3 L1. Steve was one of only three players to play every game that season.

Such sad news, Steve Piper was a class act on and off the pitch. One of my childhood heroes, who always gave 100% - Steve never complained if things weren't going his way. Too young, too early - sincere condolences to the family. The Albion family will never forget - thank you Steve, may you rest in peace. A hero and a local one as well.

RIP Steve. A classy midfielder in my early days watching the Albion and also when he played for Worthing after retiring from pro football with injury.

This is such sad news. He was one of the few talented young players, like Tony Towner, that broke into the team around 73 and stayed with us into the early glory years. My recollection was of a classy, footballing, centre back, who was equally happy in attacking situations and I will always remember a last minute winner from a tight angle in the South Stand end vs Hereford in front of a huge crowd on a Sunday. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Oh blimey that is such sad news. He was our mortgage advisor on our first house 20 years ago, I was slightly too young to see him play for us but totally appreciate what an absolute legend he was for the Albion. Really sad news

Very sad news. Condolences to his family. I worked with him, way back in 1971, for a brief few months at American Express. He was a delightful person, always upbeat and positive, although he was worried that his hopes of becoming a professional footballer were not going anywhere. Then, one day, he had a call from the Albion, who had appeared to have forgotten about him, and his career took off over the next few years! RIP Steve.
