The whole PPI says a lot about today's society, people not wanting to take responsibility for their own actions. Always want to blame someone else

Rubbish. I was sold something I hadn't asked for, didn't know I had - and wouldn't have wanted, and they overcharged me constantly for it too.

Wasn't it compulsory?

some was, some wasnt; some you were encouraged, some you were enrolled with information, some enrolled without information. thats the point of the "mis-selling", it wasn't always appropriate. though as noted above, sometimes it was and people are getting refunds with interest. i even heard some get payouts when they've claimed.

After I was shafted for thousands with my endowment mortgage, I'm clawing back as much as I can from the financial sector.

only ever had one credit card before the PPI sh1t hit the fan. On that card i spoke to the service team questioning everything on my first statement, got to PPI, asked what it was and they explained. On hearing that it was just a payment for insurance that was 100% not necessary i asked for it to be removed and they did so immediately. Bit gutted that i was so assertive now.

The PPI thing has quietened down a bit now, most of you, like me, were probably bombarded by persistent claim hunters.

I'm interested to know your experiences.

Wife got back £3500, it took a long time but worth it.

We're all paying for the blame culture

On similar lines, I always read things before I signed them. Feeling a bit silly now :dunce:

Claimed through Consumer refund Service this year after dismissing it for a long time. Easy forms, no need to remember all the detail as they do the leg work, have received £11k so far, and yes I paid 25% to CRS, but it wouldnt have happened otherwise.... 75% is sitting snugly in my savings account.

Understand your point of view because you took a hit, but until endowment policies stopped meeting expectations, they worked a treat. Few analysts expected that to change until it did. Would you have returned the extra growth to the company had it over performed?

Come to that, did you get the benefit of higher growth in the value of your property as a result of the easier affordability of a interest only mortgage? People who took repayment mortgages often set their sights lower on their property for affordability and many who took endowment mortgages may have seen £100k more growth in the value of their home yet only taken a £20k hit on the endowment policy. I.e still gained £80k more than the guy who didn't go down the endowment route.

Did you claim via Citigroup? I've never been quite sure how to go about claiming from Egg.

No. Our very own Uncle Spielberg got me the form, I don't think I needed any account numbers or anything. I had an Egg mortgage, it's a while since I claimed but I thought it was incredibly easy and quick.

Got back £7,500 very easily. No need to go through a 3rd party. I had always maintained that the company (Egg) had charged me incorrectly, and I proved it.
Presumably you didn't pay off the full balance every month, so you had to pay interest and fines etc? I pay off my cc every month, so I don't expect to get charged for anything

Ah, just seen you had a mortgage.

What companies have people used? I had credit cards and loans coming out my a*** for a lot of my younger years.
I know a lot of people say it's easy enough without going through another company and that they take a percentage - but if I don't have to do anything and get a few grand pumped into my account I don't really care if they've taken 25%

I claimed through a company because I didnt get any satisfaction doing it myself and my view was that they charged a % but without it I wouldnt gave got anything. Most companies said they couldnt find me having had an account with them. In fact this is the same answer from Brittania Building Society who I most definitely had a mortgage with in 1980s but am unable to move on as I have no details and they say I didnt have one. They told the company I used Direct Redress the same. So where do I go from here, just accept that I have lost the claim and any money paid?
