There were no negatives from that match for me. I am far more encouraged now than I was before the game, I think we are going to have a good go at it.

The bad news is that athletico were strolling around for most of the match. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Ryan and Gross have looked decent so far. Not sure about Suttner though. Giving the ball away a fair bit and didn't compete with the cross just a few minutes before their goal.

Not sure he's entirely convinced defensively in the friendlies so far but early days, and he delivers a good cross.

I love the way Solly looks for the pass as well. Something that will hopefully rub off on Knock this season.

This. Can see Solly being the one who impresses most unless Knocky can curb his Diego Maradona tendencies & frustrated arm-waving when it's not going well. Made me laugh that as soon as he came on he beat a couple of players, and then thought he'd take them all on. It's Atletico Madrid. Pass it man. But I still love him.

That's how they play.

If they weren't taking it seriously then the way they celebrated their final goal was an act. Added to which Simone wasn't messing around on the touchline

It was a friendly, both teams were strolling around. It was a good game of football played by two fairly evenly matched teams but their additional quality shined through.

It was encouraging, but nothing more than that. Nothing less, though! After the pathetic Hyypia performance during the Southampton game, it was clear we were doomed. I'd rather be encouraged and enthused than depressed and foreboding.

EFL = Hoof ball and run around alot.
PL = More technical and keep ball (or strolling as you call it)

No, I call it strolling because it was a friendly.

Wait for next week and you'll see the difference between the intensity of a friendly and the Premier League.

Also, if you think "hoof ball and run around alot" characterises the Championsip, I couldn't disagree more.

No they weren't. They're that good they look like they're strolling but that's how they play. If you look at the game as a whole they tried to kick March out of it, clotheslined Knockaert in the box, clattered Brown, celebrated their winner madly & displayed excellent tactical football at times.

They had another gear but I think we do too. We won't start Hemed & Murphy next week. But bottom line is they cared.

This, I thought we held our own, all 3 of their goals could have been dealt with and you would hope in the PL the defence will be a bit more on their game. Very impressed with Groß, Brown & Suttner looked useful as well. Thought Kayal looked better than Stephens in 1st half and if we can keep that level up against Man C then we might not get the thumping a lot of us expect. Need that pacy striker in though.

Can't believe some of the crap on this thread. Sure we road out luck, or at least Ryan kept us in it in the first Hal, until his blunder, but I. Second half we took it to one of best teams in Europe and were unlucky to lose. I was worried we would look out of our depth and possibly take a pasting, but with all 4 new signing looking very good, and March looking awesome, I am really encouraged.

It's nice to be able to take so many positives from the game:-

- Gross
- March
- Knockaert back
- Bruno looking the youngest on the pitch.
- Izzy looks sharp.
- Team spirit seems alive and well.
- Plenty of quick passing.

Really encouraged with the display. Team Spirit did look good generally, but it was noticeable that when Ryan let in the goal, nobody went to him to console him. If, sorry, when Stockdale cocked up the team rallied round him. When Ryan walked off at half time Dunk walked off within five yards of him and totally ignored him. Everybody around us mentioned it at half time. I am sure everything ok but just seemed strange.

Who was the left back for Atlético ?

Sun was causing glare (East Lower) and I'm not sure who it was? I think he was well competent.

cf (Leicester v Atlético) https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...d-champions-league-quarter-final-match-report

Saúl was injured.

Need to score three. And no side have done that against Atlético in the Champions League since they lost at Olympiakos in September 2014, a run now spanning 33 matches. That was before Real Madrid.
