I cannot see the point of sending Goldson out on loan. He may not be first choice and only get limited game time but so would anyone else who are behind Dunk and Duffy in the pecking order. He knows the players, he fits in with the team and has rarely ever put a foot wrong when he has come in. Keep him as one of the 25 l say!

Absolutely this. We need 4 cb's minimum. This is the Premier league not the Championship. I don't want round pegs in square holes. I don't want to see a 37 year old filling in at cb with some of the best strikers in the world on display.

Hopefully we will be in the various cups for some time so as to give him game time if he stayed with us plus of course U23s if needed to keep match fit. However I do not agree that we need 4 CBs if we can keep a space and name only 24. I would think Dunk and Duffy with Uwe to cover would suffice unless 1 of them got a long term injury.

Because keeping him here will mean he'll (hopefully) miss pretty much another full season.
He'll end up with less than 50 appearances in 3 seasons.
Doing that elsewhere in the on coming season, means the season after he'll be guaranteed 3rd choice or even starter if the position opens up.

That's the point: if one of them gets a long-term injury in mid September we are rather light on cover until Jan transfer window.

He was 3rd choice up until his op. I still put him above Uwe now. 38 games plus cup games in the Premier league. Goldson will see plenty of action this season. He is needed here.

Or he could beat out one of the starting two, grab his chance and run with it becoming the next sensation

That wouldn't surprise me at all. He certainly has the ability and speed to do so. Plus he will have extra hunger after what he went through. It will be like a second chance to him after reading what he had to say about it all.

YOU ARE BONKERS. We have four decent CB's why in the name of sanity would we f@@k one off out the club. It's the one area we will be comfortable with, why compromise.

I am delighted you are not in charge of naming the squad!

I see not loaning CG as an unnecessary gamble with no safety net.

Going into the season with 3 young, inexperienced, centre backs plus Uwe who inexplicably knows his way to the treatment table is asking for trouble.

This is the ideal time to give Connor the season he should have had last year, cover his position with experience, and then regroup in 12 months time crossing all fingers in the hope that it's with 3 of the very best young, experienced, centre backs in the Premier League.

I'd like to see us bring in an experienced centre back to supplement our existing players for that bit of experience, As an example like Bournemouth did with Sylvain Distin for their first season in the Prem. He only made 10 appearances but he helped keep them up.

Only Goldson and Dunk have not played top flight football. Apart from Goldson, only 31 out of 155, all the others have played well over 150 games in the second tier. Hunemeier over 300. I consider them all experienced. Just stepping up.

Our team will have to fight harder to compete with bigger, fitter, better players in most of the other teams. That will mean more strains, tiredness and injuries. Our whole squad will be stretched - we will definitely need the highest quality cover we can get for every defensive position or we'll ship goals.

Don't think I would.....I was worried when Duffy got injured but Uwe was superb when he came in and is I suspect ahead of Connor in the pecking order. Hope Connor will be back to his best though, and completely agree we need to keep all 4 of them. They'll all get game time.

Why should they be bigger and fitter?

Every time we have played Prem sides in the last few seasons, we've seen that the players are typically stronger on the ball and more able to keep possession. Their fitness levels have seemed higher too - partly because the players haven't been drawing on their energy reserves as our will have to to compete for the full 90+ minutes.

A step up that doesn't get any bigger than this one.
I have every confidence in them all being able to 'make it', I'd just be very surprised if they all make it at the same time pretty much on their own.

Elsewhere on here James Collins' Premier League CV was very much the answer given to me as I asked 'who might be a PL experienced player be?'

Centre back is a crucial position.
The nature of the club means they have inexperience in front and behind them, while at times, esp Dunk, showing immaturity themselves.

I accept that but why cant our fitness coaches get our squad up to that level.
