Bumper Payrise for Her Majesty

She doesn't actually work.

You may not feel that hosting foreign leaders, attending national events, hospitals, charities etc is work, but she does her duty every single day, starting with despatch boxes at 6am every morning.
I am nearly 20 years younger than her, and I couldn't do it.

At least they get paid. I'm self employed and haven't paid myself for 14 months and many self employed are exactly the same, living off scraps to make sure their businesses survive.
I'd like to see these hard done by nurses working as hard as Her Maj at 91 years of age.
Or maybe you're in the wrong business and it's time to find the right one???

It's comparable. It's a place of work.

It's not compatible by any means.

One is a dilapidated ruin which is in need of major updating so it can serve its purpose to care for the thousands of tax paying citizens that require it. The other is just a house nonused by its occupier for much of the year and only part open to the public.

It's not work. All that can be done and more by a democratically elected head of state.

I just can't understand why people are so keen on one family doing the 'job' that would be better served by someone else elected by the masses. It's a sad state of heart over head or misguided national pride or sonething

Just yesterday two diplomats presented their credentials to the Queen, there. All states visits by foreign leaders are hosted at Buckingham Palace. There are approx 600 staff working there doing the admin work for the whole family, which obviously includes servants. It's a business.

Presidents have political responsibility so wouldn't have the time to devote to charities, that the royals do.

It is also remarkable how many people insist that the Royal family do a job that most of us simply couldn't. Er righto, how lucky we've been to have a lineage for hundreds of years so well stocked with people capable of doing a seemingly near impossible job.

Would you rather have the queeen as head of state or corbyn the head of a politburo running the country?

And all of this would not be required, well on a smaller scale, should we move away from this archaic system.

Its moribund

Ok...you've made your feelings plain....off with their heads and onto President Johnson.
My God. Have you people not had enough of politicians ruining our lives with their lies and deceit and incompetence without giving one of them the opportunity to be titular head of our country.
I'm proud that we have a Royal Family and Im proud of the Queen. I have huge admiration for the work she does and the steady hand with which she rules. Long may they reign over us.

This system is the envy of the world. The Americans love our Royals, and I know quite a few French people who do too. The Queen is the head of state to 16 countries, and Head of the Commonwealth to 43 countries. Useful allies and trading partners.
There are quite a few European countries who also kept their royal family, including Spain, who reinstated theirs.

Repeating myself but democratically elected is the clue

They like the pomp but surely you understand that most people don't see any real relevance in modern day society. They have no power over parliament.....oh wait
