NOW TV - Comparison

Don't do the subscription with NowTV. Almost always cheaper to buy to by the "scratch cards" from Currys (or wherever) and just sign in from a PC and cancel before the renewal is due.

£15 for 2 months of movies
£15 for 3 months of entertainment
I never use Sports and Kids passes so no idea how they compare.
Also, there are regular offers from various companies to get 'free' packages. I recently got a month's worth of movies just by buying a pizza from Pizza Hut rather than our usual Dominoes.

As previously mentioned, there are very limited channel choices for Live TV. (Although Sky Atlantic is one!) Consider the entertainment package to be a way of getting Box Sets and you have a reasonable price comparison with other TV options.

Also, if you don't have a smart TV, the Now box will give you easy access to iPlayer, ITV Hub, 4OD, etc for all the normal terrestrial channels.

We have 3 boxes and 1 laptop set up to share the same account and can have any 2 in use at a time (and the laptop is usually in use somewhere other than in the house!) and generally only use movies for a couple of months then don't bother for a couple because the choice doesn't change nearly as much as Sky tell you it does!

The only significant drawback is that you can't [easily] record on Now TV.

Sorry didnt know whether like some broad bands it takes an hour to activate or whatever. Dont need a month as I should be able to get to the beam back for Forest and all other games. Tried it just now and it came up Now TV not responding that was on microsoft edge.

In Microsoft Edge click on the three dots top right of browser and select open with Internet Explorer. Or you can open Internet Explorer directly if you prefer.

Using a service like cable TV from Virgin or satelite tv from SKY is very different than NOWTV. On Virgin & Sky you can record shows and set series links where as Now is just shows them live or has things available from the on demand services. Obviously if you just want to watch live football then that isn't a factor but it could be worth considering when comparing prices.

Was just about to ask this. I was hoping it had all the PVR stuff else it's not worth me swapping.

I had a fall on the A27 underpass on Saturday on the way to the game. thanks to those people that tended to me and helped pick me up. Unfortunately it has left me in great pain and unable to walk so will miss the game but not having sky I see that I can get a day pass and watch Sky Sports and the game.

Do I just enrol with Now TV or do I have to download anything to my laptop so that I can watch it on the TV through HDMI cable. Any sensible help would be appreciated

I have a weeks sky sports pass for now TV, pm me if you want it. May help your recovery pass by a bit quicker.

Daughter in law came in and she did exactly that and so all is now up and running so thanks to everybody I can watch us get 3 points tomorrow.

Good work DIL. Enjoy the game, and hope you're back in your seat for the next one

This will perhaps teach me that I am not as young as I was so shouldnt just follow others willy nilly.

It was completely my own fault. The 25 was full so caught the 29 and got off opposite The Amex not in the village and walked across the grass to go via the underpass and all the people, younger than me, went down the grass verge to join the path and I did similar but it was too steep and I fell down it rather than walk down it. Silly old duffer forgetting I am not 50 anymore. Luckily people stopped and picked me up and i was able to get to the game and wife picked me up afterwards.

Tried a £6.99 one-day sports pass for Now TV last night. Have to say, signing up was easy, but getting it activated took much longer than it should have.

It's not full HD, which makes sport look poor, but the sound and picture also suffered from occasional buffering, not necessarily both at the same time.

We have BT's 75mb fibre-to-the-premises broadband, which works perfectly for Netflix and Amazon.

Not impressed. Anyway, I'll probably go to the pub for the next match. Better for my nerves.

Was not impressed as I had to turn off the sound as it was saying Stephens to Dunk to Bruno and on to Knockheart but stopped by Dummett as the ball was going to Stephens on the picture so some 20 second behind the commentary..

If it was that bad you should have rebooted your laptop to get it back in sync.

My experience was faultless, I have had quite a few passes now and have never experienced any problems with Now TV. Probably jinxed it now though.

I fell down that verge once about 4 years ago. It was properly muddy but I fancied my (and the nipper's) chances of getting down it ok.

Unfortunately he went flying on his arse about half way down taking me with him as it was so slippery. Much to the hilarity of passing fans (who, fair play, stopped laughing when the sprog started crying). But there was no harm done apart from him being covered in mud.

I have found that NowTv works better using the box plugged into the TV rather than watching on a laptop/PC whatever. Have never had any buffering problems and my broadband is slow (no fibre available)

I was watching it directly through my smart TV. Is there a way to get it via a Sky box? Sky don't do "day passes", do they?

No, it's not available through a Sky Box. If you want a 'box' to go through then you would have to purchase a NOW TV box.

Having said that, it would be rather pointless as you obviously have the app on your Smart TV!

The poor picture quality you refer to would be your Smart TV (1080p?) upscaling a 720p stream.

It is Sky by another name. It's fine on LG tv's, they say it works directly on Samsung, only 2015 and later, which they don't tell you till your in. It's the Silverlight problem again. OK on the laptop though, still better definition and less buffering and tearing than a dodgy stream.
