Co sign Buzzer's thoughts on the Bonobo album, it's well good mate.

I have always been put off by his previous close association with The Big Chill festival. Should I reassess?

Brighton - In your face
I've probably mentioned this before but I cam back to my tent at Glastonbury one year to find my gazebo all skew-whiff and my picnic table demolished. A short while later a neighbour came over to explain the damage. Turns out Guy Garvey did an acoustic set for the BBC and used our area for the performance....he sat on the table, it gave way and he tumbled into my gazebo. I have a film of this somewhere.

Did he pay for it?

Jens Lekman - 'Life Will See You Now'

The Swede's 3rd album is a bit of a grower for me. His approach - the superficially light and frothy pop with bittersweet love songs and killer song titles has been done before: Beautiful South, Orange Juice et al but there's not too many people making this kind of music anymore. About the only act that springs to mind is Herman Dune and there are lots of similarities with them (especially on Wedding in Finistere) so if you're a Herman Dune fan then I promise you that you will love this album.

Moon Duo - 'Occult Architecture Vol 1'
This was Resident's album of the week last week and I've got to say I've played this often and loud since I got hold of it. It's pure unabashed psychedelic guitar rock with lots of pounding drums and soaring guitar solos, reverb and everything else. There's apparently a sister album, the volume 2, being released later in the year to look out for too.

That's a great call. My youngest has got me into them and he was telling me about all the music videos for the songs off the album having connected stories.

Absolutely, each song comes from a different "character" in an elaborate soap opera they've created - the lyrics are highly enjoyable

From "Life Itself"

[Verse 1]
Daddy was dumb, said that I’d be something special
Brought me up tough but I was a gentle human
Said that he loved each of my two million freckles
When I grew up was gonna be a superstar

[Pre-Chorus]
I can't get a job so I live with my mum
I take her money but not quite enough
I sit in the car and I listen to static
She said I look fat but I look fantastic

The remastering of The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads by Lift To Experience is really good. I'm sure if you already love the album you'll agree.

If you don't already love the album, it's a cult classic. Hamstrung by a pretty awful mix and the band imploding pretty much immediately after recording it, it never really received its proper dues, although Josh T Pearson has gone on to do some very worthwhile solo stuff. It's a singular sounding record but touches on post-rock and shoegaze, with Josh's vocals (as per his solo stuff) transcendent.

There's a semi mythical gig they did to about 40 punters at The Freebutt in 2000 or 2001. Was anyone there? I didn't find out about this record until 2005ish.....

In my younger days, I contrived to fall asleep during a LTE gig. I frequented The Freebutt regularly from 2002, freshly DFL, and did manage to see Josh T Pearson there for a quite fantastic solo set. I'm not so sure that I want to listen to that Texas Jerusalem album much, there are very limited situations when it works for me, but no doubting its importance as an album.

I'm a bit like that with his solo album as it goes. I understand that it is magnificent, I loved it when I saw him live, I would NEVER put it on .

3 albums that are well worth getting into in my opinion:

Shannon Wright - 'Division'. She's been around a long time although not very prolific which is quite apt seeing as this album sounds uncannily like it's the b@stard child of Portishead's second and third albums with a bit of Hazel O'Connor thrown in for good measure. The album is quite gothic too and a few tracks that Chelsea Wolfe would be proud to call her own. I'm quite smitten with this from the first listen.

Ron Gallo - 'Heavy Meta'

It's as if the mid to late 60s never went away. Ron Gallo plays a very retro fuzzy guitar sound accompanied by Jim Morrison-esque vocals. Another instant hit. Just check this track, the opener from the new album.

Cigarettes After Sex - EP

As the title suggests it's an EP with 4 very good tunes. Atmospheric is probably the word I'd use to describe the EP, a bit similar in delivery to Cowboy Junkies or Mazzy Star but there's no hint of country in there, they're strictly indie. The pace doesn't vary but when it's so few tracks you don't lose interest whereas I'm not sure I could cope with an entire album at this speed.

They were due to play at Polar (now the Hope & Ruin) but got moved to the Freebutt due to being too loud. There was a local band due to play at the Freebutt that night who were, by accounts, a bit miffed when they got bumped off. Lift To Experience were superb. They came back and played at the Pavillion theatre a little while later and were jaw droppingly good.

Somewhat bizarrely, Josh T Pearson turned up for the world moustache championship weekend at the Brighton Centre about 10 years ago and did an impromptu gig in the basement of the Greenhouse Effect on the Sunday night, I think it was £5 a ticket.

The new Mark Eitzel album is very lush. I initially found the polish that Bernard Butler has put on it a bit off putting but after a couple of listens I'm totally sold.

Bloody promoters having him on in town the same night as Drive By Truckers, I'd love to have seen them again ...... but it's Mark Eitzel.

I see Moon Duo have a new one out. They're actually now a trio, having bit the bullet and recruited a drummer.

Still on their Suicide meets Neu vibe, it makes for a very nice listen even if it may not be covering much* new ground.

I really like the album, I did a mini-review a few days ago and I read somewhere that the album is in two parts with the second part due for release later in the year. 'Cold Fear' and 'Cross-Town Fade' are quite awesome.
