I do boost my income by adopting a generic Eastern European accent, donning tracksuit bottoms coupled with a leather jacket and a Relox watch, borrowing 13 of my friends' children and heading off to Jobcentre Plus every fortnight. Sometimes I adopt a limp and a wistful look if I need some extra to send to my family, say a birthday or a few dozen of them want to join me here for a 13 year holiday.

Self-employed business/IT consultant for the last 20 years. Work hard and stay away a fair bit. Nearly always been fully booked and have long term customers. I do very well, and feel that I have been fortunate. But, I've taken chances/risks and put myself out to build my business. In the past I've done a lot of evening / weekend work when required to as well.
Early fifties - I could afford to retire but still enjoy what I do and think staying mentally alert is beneficial.

Being serious I do try and keep my work life separate from social media. I've occasionally spoken about certain aspects of it but in general I keep it private. Different story with my personal interests which part of the fun is sharing.

Whilst retirement is 17 years away it does scare me. I'm quite active and need to occupy my time and enjoy my work. I find the idea of not doing it at all worrying. I guess I might feel different when the time comes but I'd currently like to do a couple of days until I drop.

...the rail pays fairly well but people who work on the railways just don't care about the industry anymore. There is no pride in the job, it's all about getting what one can without question or qualm, entitlement and not willing to work for the customer but to feather their own nest. The decline of the railways has been sad and it's not a job I would want to be associated with. I earn enough and I love my work. That'll do for me and mine.

Speaking from experience I joined the railway and cared massively for the passengers/customers I dealt with, primarily those who required assistance to board and alight trains due to disability or any number of other reasons. I then moved on to being a conductor and was thrilled as it was an extension of the job I was doing. That was unfortunately short lived as the whole work force became de-moralised, me especially. Before the whole thing kicked off with the industrial action I applied for another job still on the railway but had to wait 10 months for me to change jobs.

I've now gone back to putting everything I can in to providing the best service I can even though I don't directly deal with the general public.

Please don't tar every one of my colleagues with the same brush, there are many of us who work for railway who do the best we can despite what has been going on these past 9 months, or to be honest, a lot longer.
