I think we should re-run that poll at the end of the transfer window. Lots of people rowing back based on one game.
Not up to me of course, but I think it's good to get a few weeks of games in between polls, otherwise it becomes farcical.

I hope Reading get a play off spot. Not because I really care much about them, but because, like us, they are doing it on a small budget and it kicks the teeth out of the money driven sides.
I agree except that we can't claim to be doing it on a small budget. Within FFP limits, yes - lower budget than those that have come down, and less wild spending than Derby etc, yes. But not a small budget.

The fact we have a thread this long about Reading shows they are doing something right.

Yes they were poor last night. But how many times on sky have we been dogshit in the past?

No team gets to third by chance, whatever they are doing they are doing well.

As for people quoting 361 as its some sort of fact is really boring and tedious. As previously said its a model and models can be broken. Leicester City proved how overcheivers can continue form almost for a full season without any major set backs.

Reading were poor and QPR much improved and deserved the win that helped our cause. Can I just though temper that with reminding everyone that we have to go there at the most important end of season run in and will probably need a result. Lets hope QPR's improvement isnt that good.

Is that right about Leicester? Did they go through the season nicking points disproportionately to what would be expected based on chances created and conceded? Did they have a first half of the season where they lost, often convincingly, against anyone decent away from home?

It is equally boring to use as a counterpoint that something "could" happen. We all know that Reading "could" end the season in the top 3. Some of us just don't think it very likely based on a rational analysis of their season so far.

It's a fair point. The bonus we have is that QPR's season may well be over by then (as it was when we played them at home last season). There will only be six games left and I think they'll be well clear of the bottom three by then and won't be near the play offs.

I also know it is often said but, from the bit I saw, it looked to me like Reading were poor. QPR were not amazing. What we've been doing in games like that is turning it round and winning. Reading didn't manage that last night.

Is this a dig at us from Mr Holloway:

QPR boss Ian Holloway told BBC Radio London:

"We talked about what we were going to do - I looked at their play and I felt we needed to stop that, but it was a delight - it could have gone either way if we'd let one in early.

"I know [Kazenga] LuaLua will add to us - our fans are already singing his name, it's wonderful.

"Jamie Mackie epitomises everything that I'm believing and he's got where he's got because that's in his DNA - what a wonderful example."

I watched the whole game and Reading (despite their possession) were little better than dreadful, and kept giving the ball away in dangerous positions and when not under a great deal of pressure. IMO QPR were handed it on a plate and think a better team might have done Reading by 3 or 4.

I'm not sure it really says much about how good QPR were/are but it will be interesting to see how Reading come back particularly as they have two tough looking games coming up next

Sorry to bore you. Not staying it as fact merely pointing out that Reading could be due a slide of the stats are borne out. Sorry if that's not sufficiently diverting for you.

My 2p:

The point is that the model says they are over-achieving based on what they should be getting, across the course of the season. So, they are either over-achieving the model because they have a high quality squad (ie: more clinical), or they are riding their luck. Historically they have hugely under-performed, so maybe they are owed this! Experimental-361 and many here think that it is luck - we will find out at the end of the season! Of course the model also shows us over-achieving since January last year, so either we are riding our luck as well, or we have good players.

Leicester are the aberration, which in my opinion actually reinforces the point that is was largely luck. Luck that the competition dropped the ball, lucky with injuries so their best players were consistently available and just in general they scored more goals than they were predicted to (based on their chances and the quality of those chances). This season shows them achieving pretty much exactly the goal difference that the model predicts - so they are no longer over-achieving, but achieving what they should be - and look at them.
