For Villa to secure 2nd, say you need 90 pts they need to average 2.32 points per game, that equates a 106 points over a season. Are they that good?

Villa worry me the most due to their upturn in form and having a manager who has done it several times before.

3 of their next 4 games are away against Leeds, Norwich and QPR we will probably have a good idea how good they are after those games.

Still think Norwich although things needs to change quickly for them as they have the firepower to win 5 or 6 games on the bounce if they get their act together. Villa would have to go on a hell of a run to make auto although I could see them both getting into and winning the play offs, Derby too could come into play too as they have a great squad...

On the assumption that most think that Newcastle will win the league, then I think Derby are on the up. However, it's a tight pack and this could help if they all take points off each other.

It's too early to know, it's not too early to guess. They are all rivals, any or all of them could finish above us. The question is simply which one is more likely to finish about us? It's not a tough concept.

Eh? They're very unlikely to get 12 points from the next 5 games. They've just lost 5 in a row, and have to play Villa and Reading (and Huddersfield and Brentford) in the next 5.

If you look at the turn around in points between ourselves and Norwich in little more than a month and also consider Reading's run a few years back from near relegation to promotion, then points gaps this early in the season offer limited comfort.
Still, points in hand and all that.......... We also have a goal difference worth an extra point to anyone who catches us up and it seems unlikely that a bad run would be so serious given that our primary strength is defensive organisation which is less likely to decline dramatically than strength built on goalscoring.
I'd fancy Villa and Derby the biggest threats based on managerial impact and experience and on their squads' strength in depth.
