Bloody Worthing!
Well played man, I'm sorry I didn't see you. I dragged myself around in 4:17:47, so I shaved 40 minutes off last year's time. I stumbled on the final descent, and I have a really sore ankle and lower shin. Enjoyed the run again, didn't have the calf and quad disasters of last time either. The mist was crazy though, my glasses were steamed up and could barely see.

... and then scooted off to see the Albion :albion2:

Bloody hell: what a great day!

Far too any post Norwich beers to entertain a long run today. I did manage a laboured 4 miles trying to erase the memory of being passed by a father pushing his 2 year old in a push chair at Eastbourne park run yesterday. I passed him before the finish but the damage was done

On NSC for over two decades...
Well done everyone on some great times over the weekend.

I took myself on a trot up to the Hogs Back and back - near enough 10k. My hamstring is still a little sore I have found, but despite that, and to my surprise, I still posted my second fastest time for that particular route.

Back on the foam roller tonight I think...

That is anexcellent time. You've beaten your jinx when near the sea. Did you wear blinkers so you could not see the Ocean from the Seven Sisters or did the mist obscure it?

Cheers very much. Yeah, I'm over it (for now)...

No worries, there were lots of people there! I would love to have made it to the Amex, but I decided to hang around and cheer on some other heroes.

Yours is a cracking time. I was talking about you with the guy I was running with and I wondered whether you'd get near sub-4, but you've done very well. Ideal conditions, too.

Hope the injury isn't too mad – at least it was at the end, not the beginning...

With just 2 months left of 2016 has anyone got any specific goals they are looking to achieve before 2017? (We can look at goals for 2017 a bit later, I guess.)

Nothing much for me, although I'd like to beat my 2015 time for the Hayling Island 10 in late November.

Been uphill for you since your brilliant AG 5k in early January. Enough to see me off by a few percentage points.

I'm hoping to be able to walk without pain and not cancel my 5 week trek in the Annapurna. 4 weeks to go till departure and swelling has spread to one knee, tendinitis in the other knee, 2 swollen big toe joints and a finger like an Ernest Sausage.

Worst flare up for 25 years and partly due to excessive interval training looking for the elusive sub 20 in the summer and trying to walk through it in the Pyrenees.

Could have put up with it better if the holiday had been booked for a hot desert rather than a Crisp and freezing cold Himalayan winter.
Had a good 2016 though with some classic losses to most NSC runners and a few victories against the same runners. Think I'll miss the Brighton Marathon next Spring and aim for the Three Forts Challenge as a reintroduction to running.

Hats off to you Beachy Head Marathon runners, sounds like good times on what is a really tough course.

If I can muster the courage I might join you next year!

You should do – it's an amazing experience and one that I prefer that marathon in London...

I'd like to do Mince Pie 10 mile and beat my best 2016 parkrun time (21:18). One is more likely than the other

Brilliant run, back on form!

Thanks GB. It was quite a day. Trail running is the way to go.

Sorry to hear this, sounds bloody horrible...........but good to see you are setting the modest target of the Three Forts! I won't bet against you doing it.
Looking forward to re-engaging in the Battle of the Old Gits ASAP - you were really closing the (AG) gap rather rapidly at one point.

Anyone off to the New York marathon this weekend? My brother who lives in Detroit is running it so I'm flying out Friday, back Sunday to watch him. We've also just realised they do a 5k on the Saturday morning from the United Nations, across Manhattan and into Central Park. At $50 it's the most expensive 5k I've ever done (and probably will ever do!) - hard to take the cost when you're used to parkrun. However, as I'm there I decided it was worth it - do at least get a t-shirt!

Sub four hour Brighton. Six seconds to knock off :)

Also a sub 21 park run would be great. Also 1000 miles for the year. Had that as a target this year but the injury is going to leave me short. Currently on 774 with a very gentle recovery starting on Thursday if I hold out.

Really feel for you mate, hope it all gets better soon. The tendonitis I can relate to, the rest just sounds horrible. Rest up, try and enjoy your trip and hope to see you at a parkrun next year so you can put me in my place again :lolol:

My goal is to try to get bk running after the last couple of months of stop start due to an injured shoulder.
Hopefully this means I'll be able to achieve my target of 1000 miles for the year, I'm currently on 870 miles.

If I can get a consistent couple of months I would love to get to 1030 miles so that I've done double the amount of miles to last year.

Just a quick, and complimentary, word about Garmin. While I was injured I stopped charging my FR235 regularly. Still managed to charge it from nearly flat once but the second time it would not charge, no way, no how. From phoning them about it to getting a replacement delivered under warranty by UPS today took less than a week and no quibbles at all. I'm taking it as an omen that I can take out a new watch with a repaired knee on Thursday and finally get back in to it.

Sorry to hear it's not improving yet, sounds horrible. I'm with you on the crocks bench at the mo, knee is improving very slowly but now have tendinitis in the foot on the other leg (possibly due to overprotecting the other knee, I dunno). Have binned running for a while to try to get fixed. Frustrating.

Time to enjoy the Albion and give the body a break. Must have some benefits.
Can't risk any heavy exercise. Knees got it from ****** swimming. Despite a full medical history dating back 30 years I have had to wait 12 weeks for a Rheumatologist appointment. 16 November. Usually gone by the time I see them.

On a good note the wife will probably lift my Brighton Marathon ban ( me going on about it during training) as it is preferable to my moaning on about this. Guinness Boy is (rightfully)winding me up too much.....

Im not a proper runner unlike you guys of whom I'm totally in awe but the great thing is that you can set personal goals.

I'm aiming for 1,000 miles and currently at 950 so fairly confident. At start of year my aims were sub 24 5k (managed 23:35), sub 50 10k (49:12) sub 1:50 half (only at 1:51:33 and struggling to find another race before year end locally) and persuade wife to let me run a marathon (she saw me at 19 at Brighton in 2015 when I was all over the place and was convinced I would not live).

Ran my second marathon in Dublin Sunday. It's a great course, some inclines but nothing too unpleasant apart from one at 22. Organisation was excellent, especially starting the runners in four waves so there were no bottlenecks. Would thoroughly recommend it.

I was aiming for 4:15, first half was 1:57 and feeling great. Was wondering if I had an outside chance of 4:05 at the time.

Think I had probably overdone the carb consumption the night before and needed a dump at 15, then got severe cramp at 19 and limped the last few to finish in 4:23, so a bit disappointed but 36 minutes faster than before.

You seem like a proper runner to me! Well done. Your Dublin experience mirrors almost exactly my two marathons.

The 1000 miles in a year target seems to be quite a popular one; it's never occurred to me to log miles over a year, but I guess the technology now makes it easy to do so (if not easy to actually run them!). Looking back on my 30+years running I suspect I've never clocked a thousand in any year. Perhaps that's why I've managed 30+ years!
