Seems to me the strike option has run it's course. It's being hopelessly diluted by the fact that Thameslink trains provide a ready alternative, plus a fair number of Southern trains with drivers seem to run unaffected. Indeed, most customers who brave the strikes report a more pleasant journey with more personal space than on non-strike days. Such is the politics of the madhouse that is the train service in this neck of the woods. Said it before, say it again, it needs the DRIVERS to come out on strike in support of their colleagues and bring the network to a standstill. Until that happens, striking is a fairly meaningless gesture that might as well be declared, Monday thru Friday, for the foreseeable, for all the difference that it makes.

Booked Brendon equestrian P&R for Tuesday, not used it before but coming down from East Grinstead area it seemed like a good option. Anyone used it for other games?

There will be a limited service operating west of Brighton (towards Hove and Worthing). Services are expected to finish at approximately 18:30 on this route and you should make alternative travel plans to get to and from the match.
Seaford services
Buses will replace trains between Seaford and Lewes. Capacity may be limited and you will need to transfer from bus to train at Lewes. You are advised to make alternative travel plans if possible.
Services east of Eastbourne (towards Hastings)
Buses will replace trains between Eastbourne and Hastings. Capacity may be limited and you will need to transfer from bus to train at Eastbourne. You are advised to make alternative travel plans if possible.
Please note that the last train from Falmer towards Eastbourne is planned to leave at 22:25, and towards Brighton is planned to leave at 22:45'
This is what it says on Southern's website regarding tomorrow. A relative is attending the game from Three Bridges so any idea if train travel is an option as the journey planner on the app is showing trains as normal still.

I think you may get your wish with the drivers in the near future... Unsurprisingly talks between Aslef and GTR did not go well today. I agree that it may be the only thing that puts an end to the dispute but I expect GTR and government lawyers to go into overdrive now so we will see.

In the way Southern don't care what service they run anymore so if it's a strike or not they are simply not bothered what they run each day. Now if the drivers came out and NO trains run then that is a different ball game and they can't stick any old Tom, Dick or Harry in the cab to drive trains as they have been doing with Guards.
The funny thing is that my SAUCES tell me that even the managers have had it now with SASTA executive/higher management and doing nothing to help, it really is a RANCID organisation and the sooner it is despatched to history the better

that's interesting, agree the strikes seem pretty pointless now (although I find getting to work and back easier on strike days). Very confusing/conflicting info re: tomorrow night, esp if travelling from Seaford!

I can't find any train company that don't recommend giving 24 hours notice of travel. Even on Network Rail page it says the same:
We recommend that you book help 24 hours before you travel. This enables us to: give you as much information as possible before your travel; make alternative arrangements for you if the station is not step free or not staffed at the time you wish to travel; and ensure that there are enough staff for all the assistance requests at a station. Overall, this allows us to provide you with the best possible assistance on the day.
Not sure why Southern are being singled out offering the same service as everyone else.

Looks like someone has been hit by a train at Wivelsfield, lines currently shutdown as the emergency services attend. Patience required on the journey home tonight.

Perhaps the drivers don't want to be the ones up in court or sent to prison when the scapegoat is needed if someone gets trapped in a door which they cannot see ?
Has that ever happened ? Charged or gone to prison ?
