Well the figure was 50,000 to start with (you can always rely on the Leave side to throw around exaggerated figures). Your 'survey' really does show you up as desperate. What a ridiculous thing to bother posting.

OK,I'll admit it was a bit ridiculous but throwing unprovable numbers about, and maintaining they are 'true' because the poster said it,has been a feature of the Remain posters ammunition for some time.4300 here,30 billion there,50,000 this, etc so I thought I'd join in!

Me neither, but most EU migrants don't have kids in school. And most EU migrants are better educated than their UK counterparts and often have higher paying jobs.

You should stand outside Stechford Junior and Infants at chucking out time, and try and spot any British kids-good luck with that!

Weren;t there some figures recently that showed immigrants are net contributers?

This is a good neutral piece on the effects of immigration on the labour market:

https://fullfact.org/immigration/immigration-and-jobs-labour-market-effects-immigration/

I just looked at their section on fiscal effect of immigration - the headline is the net positive/negative effect is less than 1% of GDP. Depending on which study you look at, the impact ranges from positive 2.5BN to negative 5.0BN. So thats clear then!

And while we are on the subject of ridiculous, here is Remain's latest Facebook offering :

Any explanation for this would be really helpful

I still can't see how a bloke on minimum wage, say with a couple of kids who go to school, can possibly be a net contributor.
He probably isn't but most EU migrants are not blokes on minimum wage with a couple of kids. Yes, there are people on minimum wage but they are overwhelmingly young and single, do not claim benefits and use the NHS comparatively little and even if they don't pay much PAYE and NI they will be paying VAT, alcohol duty etc so are net contributors.

There are also thousands of people working in things like financial services paying tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds in tax, sending their kids to private schools and paying for private healthcare so massive net contributors.

And then there is everyone in the middle.

The fact remains that EU migrants make a positive fiscal contribution to the UK and it could be argued that without them the NHS, schools etc would be under even more pressure than they are now as there would be less money to spend on them.

Yes, there are downsides - social cohesion in certain areas (although I think this is probably over-exaggerated in relation to EU migrants outside very specific, mainly agricultural areas), there is also some evidence to suggest that wages and jobs at the very bottom of the labour market might be adversely affected, but on balance I think that the free movement of labour within the EU has and will continue to be positive for the UK.

£350,000,000 a week here, 70 million Turks there... Both sides have used dubious or downright incorrect figures and to suggest that it is just one side or the other is just silly.

Well it's just a fact. Pretty facile as I expect that you can find some sort of migrant in most people's past but I suppose it is suggesting that all the scare-mongering about Turkish invasions is a bit rich coming from people who's main figurehead is the great-grandson of a Turk.

So, using your reckoning of about 2%, the Remain vote wins the day by around 10%?

There is a feeling that the undecided folk air on the side of caution generally. I don't know if the recent poll come back for 'Remain' is an indicator of this.

Personally, I have no doubts that 'Remain' will win. I'm just hoping they get 50.1-54.9% of the vote as I have £20 on at 11/8 !

Crikey, you need to come over to the Bognor area.

Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk

I should imagine you have a number of migrants in the hospitality industry.

Highlighting this was the reasoning behind the post anyway-glad somebody admits that BOTH sides have been telling porkies.

Oh,that's a big relief.I was worried that the Remain camp were becoming racists. Was he an economic migrant,or a real refugee?
