So 52% don't want out then. Which, last time I looked, was more than 48%.

Wow, really. Gosh thanks for that.

However, it just shows the level of discontent around Europe at the moment.

1. The rise of Far Right parties. The threat to side-line the Right-Wing guy if he'd been elected President. The EU thinks it's right to pick on countries who don't toe the line. If that doesn't set off alarm bells with you then you must be a sheep. You may not agree with the countries politics, but it's a dangerous precedent to ignore a democratically elected official, but then again, the EU has form on this.

2. The use of powers the weaken governments who oppose the EU agenda. (See what's happening in Poland now).

I get so f***ed off with these stupid statements that the EU protects us. It's NATO which has provided the security in Europe, not the EU.

You're talking about a military role. I'm talking about a diplomatic role. You're seriously telling me that 28 nations speaking with 28 voices will be taken as seriously on the global stage as 28 nations putting up a united front?

And you're seriously telling me that Putin thinks that way as well?

And even if the UK could be persuaded to support Turkey's membership there is a much bigger hurdle to cross, the veto which Cyprus insisted on retaining when they joined the EU.

The UK government is already persuaded and the PM is a huge advocate for Turkish membership. We are giving £1.2 Billion pounds to the accession countries including Turkey so they can join. The EU is giving €4.5 Billion to Turkey to help it meet the required entry standard so it's either going to happen or we are all wasting an awful lot of wonga.

Cameron is such a shyster. He'll happily say "Of course the UK has a veto". He'll omit to say "but I have no intention of using it". And he will see nothing wrong in that.

He doesn't need to say anything about using it as by the time any vote comes he will be long gone as PM. It's as useful as me saying I won't use a veto.

From the reasons he agreed to allow the referendum, to the sham negotiations, to the way he has acted during the campaign .. Shyster is a pretty accurate description.

Following that logic .. Or as useful as Obama saying we are at the back of the trade deal queue. Or as useful as any other current foreign leader's/government intervention in our referendum.

You're probably right. But I can't see anybody else in the PMs chair exercising a veto either - the EU establishment has many ways of bringing the recalcitrant country to heel - as we have seen. We may be allowed to pss and moan, we won't be allowed to veto.

Nice to see Caroline Lucas, Plaid Cymru’s leader, Leanne Wood, and the Scottish first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, highlight the role of the EU’s social benefits for working people, women and young people yesterday.
....and of course none of that would have happened anyway would it... seeing that we have been world leaders in social change and support for centuries before the EU was even a speck on the distant horizon.

Even if the Chancellor's numbers are slightly out, and they have not been debunked just queried, it is difficult to ignore the cumulative evidence that Brexit is very damaging. I don't have to accept Osborne's numbers if I don't want to, I can get a second opinion from the IMF, OECD, LSE or BoE.

thats not quite true, they have been debunked in as far as highlighting they ignore any positives outcomes or possible increases in trade out of the EU. they assume, in summary, that post Brexit the government would sit on its hands and do nothing proactive, change no regulation, make no trade agreements, and that crucially thousands of businesses would act in the same manner and not seek to adjust to the changing market. they only model the assumed reduction of trade with the EU. those august institutions assume the same as far as i can tell. by biasing the inputs and assumptions they reach a conclusion within the expected consensus.

Your remark implied directly that a woman was being dishonest by not taking her husband's name after marriage.

I get it that you don't like Merkel. But using sexism to score political points is a tad bizarre, don't you think?

You accuse me of using bizarre sexism-seems more than a bit hypocritical when your avatar is Groucho Marx, the man who made a living out of bizarre sexism!

I know East German history very well, thanks very much. I spent unification day in 1990 with good friends who escaped from the DDR. We were in front of the Brandeburger Tor and I saw how emotional they got when the two countries symbolically became one.

I'm a regular reader of German newspapers and magazines and know there have been several attempts to paint Merkel as some sort of raving communist - when you look more closely all the stories emanate from the sort of sites frequented by tin-foil hat wearers and seem to be based solely on the fact that she was a member of the FDJ - ignoring the fact that about 80% of Germany's youth were members: it was hard to get an education without being one.

It's a bit like claiming that Pope Benedict was a Nazi because he'd been a member of the Hitler Jugend - he didn't deny it (nor did Merkel), that's the way things were then.

I'm a long-standing Brexiter but that's because I believe the EU is an inefficient, anti-democratic organisation. I certainly don't believe that it's being manipulated by Merkel as some sort of communist master plan - that would be totally bonkers

Bit selective there, aren't you.80% of German youth members of the FDJ?80% of East German youth might have been members, but she was from West Germany and still joined!Didn't need to learn Russian either to get a job,but she did.My knowledge of her wasn't gained from tin-foil hat wearers either, but an inebriated former VoPo senior officer in Maximillians Bar in Almeria.I personally don't see what yourstory about being on the Brandenburger Tor has got to do with anything-you could have been doing Willi Brandt's allotment for all I care.Being a regular reader of German newspapers,I'm sure you must be aware of the NSA phone tapping scandal-wonder why her phone was bugged?

REMAINERS!!

Please stop trotting out more on how there will be a short term hit on the economy. WE KNOW. We don't care!

Leaving the EU in its current form is so much more than a few less quid in my pocket over the next couple of years .

Do you have any other argument than the economy?

This country had had 3 recessions since being in Europe, it happens from time to time, it'll happen again whether we stay in or out.

She was from East Germany - she grew up in Brandenburg. And Russian was the second language of East Germany, the language that kids learned in school - there's nothing sinister in that.

She was born in Hamburg-even you could look that up.
