Interesting that both of Hughton's ex clubs have been relegated. I am sure he doesn't need any more motivation to get us promoted, but would be the icing on the cake for him if we do, though he would never admit it.

This is why the footballing Gods made such a cock-up of the weekend. Just had to be sure Newcastle and Norwich would definitely be down, and make sure Hughton gets maximum publicity for his redemption by doing it at Wembley with the whole world watching.

BUT. That scenario would have almost guaranteed a playoff final defeat in the closing seconds.

I don't quite get this love-in for Newcastle fans. Yes, they're passionate but they're also the people who forced out Allardyce and Pardew, who were both doing OK, because of some strange sense of entitlement.

Newcastle have won one major trophy (the Fairs Cup) in more than 60 years and yet, somehow, the Geordies seem to think they're some sort of big club. A few seasons in the Championship will be a little touch of reality to them.

Next seasons automatics sorted 2 from the 3 relegated all will be stronger next season, including Villa. So for us it is now or not for a couple of years

Okay. If we don't go up, its best somebody tells Tony, Chris, and the team they may as well take a years sabbatical next season as the final placings are already confirmed.

Come off it BG, if everyone thought like that we may as well just pack up and not bother if we don't go up this year.

Besides which, have you actually seen Villa play this season? They are complete and utter PONY. I can genuinely see them doing a Wigan.

It's grim oop north
Newcastle had some STRONG players when they bounced back up again - they have feck all this year and even less after the summer... same for Villa - can see them mid-table zzzz's for a season or 2 to be honest....

I'm not so sure. They had a good group last time for the Championship: Coloccini, Enrique, Nolan, Barton, Carroll and then bought very sensible with Williamson and of course LEON BEST.

This time I think they actually have an ok squad of individuals. Krul, Dummett, Collocini, Colback, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Anita, Lascelles (excellent defender), Shelvey, Townsend, Mbemba, Janmaat, Tiote, Mitrovic.

Also, Adam Armstrong scored about 20 goals this season out on loan so will surely come back. Really highly rated. I believe Sammy Ameobi was out on loan as well.

They will no doubt keep a core and probably buy someone like McCormack or alan Judge to give that Championship experience.

I believe TB works in cycles and this year was it or we will wait anither 2-3 seasons to go again. Gus then against the odds Oscar then holding season regrouping followed by the attack on promotion this year. IMHO we will go again 17/18 or 18/19 seasons.

As soon as I saw they had gone down I instantly thought they would sign McCormack

They need to get rid of the foreign influence and these French players they buy but never seem to play, depends if the decent players like Krul will stay and who they get to manage them.

With respect I think you have no basis for this belief.

Oscar's season was handicapped from the start by the unfortunate summer sideshow.
Hyppia / Burke were mistaken appointments.

No reason to believe Tony would wait rather than build on this year.
