Thousands of books including hundreds of first editions.

I just bought a new First Edition of Harry Potter & TPS (Illustrated Edition) before they start to climb in price.
Will collect the set as they come out over the next few years.

So gutted as I had First Edition Hardbacks of all the books from 2-7 when I was younger but never took any care of them! :shootself

Are you interested in these HP Illustrated copies?

What is your favourite genre of music and medium though? Kinda curious

It's varied. My main areas of interest are electronic ranging from the classic like Kraftwerk through to modern day stuff. I like a lot of the new wave of psych, guitar based "indie", classic 80s heavy metal plus classic stuff like the Stones, Hendrix etc. I just looked at the last batch of music I bought and it was the new Steve Mason, an early Max Richter album, Shearwater and Jon Hopkins. I've just bought my first jazz album as well: Black Market by Weather Report. I always buy physical, nothing is not properly bought and paid for.

As for the medium it's now a mix. Of the purchases I listed Steve Mason and Weather Report were vinyl, rest CDs. I buy around 50 albums a year.

I also rack up a lot of gigs, over 40 last year and looks to be similar this year.

WHY??? Why collect? I can see why, maybe, in some cases (e.g. music, because you can listen to it at your leisure, and items that will accumulate in value as an investment) but I dont understand the compulsion that drives in cases like ticket stubs?? What happens? How does a person who is one day a mere mortal then become metamorphosised into "A COLLECTOR"???

I'm also into ticking things off. Currently I'm still trying to do the current 92 league grounds, I'm at 82. I'm also trying to see all the 8 Kraftwerk album performances in different cities. I have also thought about trying to tick off all the Frank Gehry buildings but this is quite a task.

As for Surfs Up question....I don't really know the reason. I probably don't want to know either. I gives me some purpose and focus I guess.

Autographs.

Started about 25 years ago at the stage doors of the Theatre Royal Bton and Congress Eastbourne etc, before moving onto London theatres, TV studios etc. Alas, I'm now working in a part of London that has no celebs, so for almost 3 years my collection has not really been added to.

Me too. Specifically the Cleveland Browns these days, but have a range of McFarlane figures & mini helmets up in the loft. I did have a whole load of NFL jerseys too but started selling them off last year...also have a large bag full of old US license plates I've collected over the years, inc. a 1932 Hawaii plate (IIRC)

When I was a kid I also collected Militaria from WW1 & WW2. Got a whole stack of stuff ranging from helmets, photos, medals, shell casings etc. & my 13 year old has now taken on the mantle of collecting more as he is a real wartime history geek.

I also went through a phase of collecting anything Asterix, and have all the books at home still.
Also still have all my old Star Wars toys, & the Power of the Force toys released in about 1996? All boxed up and in mint condition.

My wife collects Disney memorabilia too as she worked for the company for 16 years and is Disney mad. She has a few signed Disney photos inc. Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, & Hayley Mills from the original Parent Trap. We also have a signed poster of the Lion King on our wall that we got as a wedding present which is signed by a load of the animators etc.

Have a few bits of WWII militaria and would like to get more but so expensive these days. Had a mint Nazi box and case with a silver broach sort of thing that the Iron Cross hung off. Had to sell it for a friend and got £450 from the US without any trouble. Wanted to keep it should have kept it!

I don't collect these as I restrict myself to authors I want to read. I do envy anybody who bought a copy of her fist book though - they sell for huge amounts now.

As a cricket fast bowler of many years (not so fast these days) I used to collect "scalps" as in wickets - more than 50 in a season was a good return.
However, with age I have learned to hand them back in the bar after the game now.

Don't collect anything specific, my big Sis used to collect beer mats ....
