You may laugh at that but back in Apr 2014 the film Lolita starring Jeremy Irons (I think) was on Film4. Prisoners usual receive that channel. That night the signal was cut to the sex offender wings!
Dan please calm down. We all have views on what is acceptable and what is not. We cannot keep on about foreign countries laws. Accept that you have given 'air' to that anomaly and leave it at that. Funny that, when I worked in Travel 'moons' ago the EU advised that incorrect travel advice on Paperwork, passports and travel inoculations was a liable 'misdemeanour'. This country made it a criminal offence. No other eu country did. For them it was a civil matter.

FWIW he did show remorse. Don't know where this lie had come from but the media (BBC) said he hadn't apologised in court the very day he did offer a grovelling apology to the girl & her family. Amazed national press could lie to so many...

The second it became apparent that she was only just 15 (and he knew this) and he didn't meet her out in a pub or club, the whole case seemed far more serious than most / some had initially assumed.

It now appears that it isn't a result of him being a young millionaire footballer but the result of him having some serious underlying problems and then becoming a young millionaire footballer.
Toxic mix we've seen before. Imagine this in normal life. Someone has some bad problems - alcolism, addiction to drugs, attracting to under age girls and then someone gives them a stash of money because what they are good at in unaffected by their problems.
Has to to be a responsibility (not fault) on the Football Business to put checks in place to as much as they can ensure this doesn't happen. Same in the entertainment / care industry which I don't have to remind people about.
Not environments where if happens quite regularly, but an environment where it can happen quite easily.
Does that excuse him ? Nope, but everything has to be done to stop idiots like him doing the same again.
Positively makes me think of players like Caldy and even Craig Bellamy who use the overpaid circus to do something positive.
The point I think is not what footballers are paid, but the age at what they are being paid it.

They train what, 4 mornings or so a week? To coach kids I had to undertake an FA Level 1 that included a Child Protection module. Think the FA and the PFA need to do more to ensure young players are attending educational classes after training, maybe to the age of 24 or something, or even their whole careers. Financial awareness / tax laws / accounting, gambling issues, child protection, dangers of drink inc. driving, drugs (recreational and performance enhancing) etc. these and more should be mandatory educational modules that young players have to do to progress. Not completed your required modules, you can't play. You might only be talking 1 or 2 hours a week. Not just for these headline cases, but for footballers who don't plan for a life after their careers, don't invest their earnings wisely for longevity, those that go on to suffer with depression or problems with addition. Most are fine I am sure, but can't hurt to introduce a bit more education into the academy and professional system.
Other professions do this through CPD (Continual Professional Development), an architect is required to do 37 hours of training of various descriptions per year, doctors its something like 40, teachers, engineers all similar. Even as an FA Level 1 I have to do a few hours a year on modules. Surely it is time for football to apply this to footballers?

Johnson pleaded guilty to two counts, before his not guilty trial on two other counts. He was sacked immediately he pleaded guilty, so there was no question of his career continuing.
Criminal injury compensation is derisory even for bad physical injuries. There never was any question of a big pay out.
Labelling her family as chavs does you no favours whatsoever, although it may ask questions about your attitude to females in general.
