Yes. And I only have a passing interest in football.

I'm not a huge fan of road building, but it's a real shame they never built the northern section of the road all the way to central London

If Brighton play Palace on FIFA then Martin Tyler starts blathering on about "the M23 derby". As Sky invented football and he is a GOD at Sky then this must be a FACT.

I've never played FIFA and I don't have Sky, which is obviously why I've never heard our rivalry with Palace called this. I'm sure I haven't heard any fans call it this either. Definitely a Tyler/Sky invention.

It's not really a derby is it? Derbies are local affairs - Saints v Pompey, Villa v Birmingham City, Forest v Derby, even Norwich v Ipswich.

Norwich/Ipswich is, by my calculations, slightly farther apart than Brighton/Selhurst and Brighton/Pompey.

Football really is ****ing shite these days the new generation of BHA fans don't even get the rivalry with the scum up the road, they would rather kick off with Sodexo than Palace.

Wasn't it the A23 derby bearing in mind that neither BHA nor Palace are actually located on the M23!

This.

Yes, I accept that. What I was referring to in "derby status" was the geographical status - Norwich representing Norfolk and Ipswich representing Suffolk. Whatever twist you want to put on it that has never applied to the Albion v Palace rivalry. Ours always was, and always will be, a pure football rivalry initiated in the 1970s and carried on since.

Why not? The M23 seems a reasonable enough reference to me plus I like the counterpoint in it. At one end, the pleasure soaked wonderland that is Brighton and Hove, at the other, the piss stained concrete Hades that is Croydon.

This picture illustrates how Palace get to the Amex. Donkey Derby more like.

I still think we take the rivalry more serious than Palace as they have other local rivalries.

Interesting we once played an FA Cup relay at Stamford Bridge against them, I guess it was because it was a 2nd replay, look since abolished...

I think your right about the rivalry.

I would say Palace fans over 55ish would see Millwall as rivals. 40 >55 see Brighton under that age would see Charlton as rivals.

Me Personally, I dislike Chelsea and Leeds, as I dont really go for the pantomime hatred of any of the above. Cause like Palace they are mainly the underdogs.

Surely a 'Derby' refers to the game against the team that is (geographically) closest to you?

Until Crawley were promoted to the league in 2011, Palace were the team closest to us (closer than Pompey).
